I Wonder As I Wander is an older folk song from Appalachia; and considering the work I do in the maternal health space, what hits me the most is the verse that describes how Mary gave birth. That’s what inspired the concept of this video. Mary is deified for obvious reasons, but remember, she was just a girl. She was a girl on the run looking for a safe place to birth her baby, the son of God.

The moment I saw his drawings and idea, I knew his creative direction was a perfect fit for the sentiment of this song. He built the set, sourced these fabrics to wrap around me as a dress, created my flower crown, and was the photographer for the concept.
