Tess Holliday Instagram – I don’t know about y’all, but I’m screaming @effyourbeautystandards more than ever🗣️ We have seen a steady decline of real diversity & the use of plus size models since 2019 & sometimes it feels like the industry is gaslighting all of us (myself included!) into thinking those days are far behind us. It seems like every single day we are hearing of another retailer/designer discontinuing or limiting their plus size ranges. They give us subpar designs and charge us top dollar while acting shocked that the clothes aren’t flying off the shelves. If you were a chubby teenager in the early 2000’s like myself, you already knew that you were gonna have to DIY a look to even have a chance of fitting into a “trend” or feeling cute. They deprived us of the ability to cultivate our own personal styles until much later life, simply because of the limited access we had to clothes that fit our bodies. On top of all of that, they weren’t affordable, or accessible. They gave us crumbs, and now they have been slowly taking those away. I AM HUNGRY FOR MORE! Ironic or iconic, you decide. I’ll admit, the industry completely made me feel like there was no hope to be had, “why bother” was my mood for quite a while. I don’t know about y’all, but I can’t accept defeat.
