What a privilege it was to be so relentless in a plethora of prime time cases. What a joy it was to centre black culture in the moments when I was speaking to people that didn’t, but needed to be. It dawned on me how important it was (and is) to me to not just be physically black so they could see me in these places, but culturally black so they could hear the breadth of our minds in these spaces. For my advocacy to be interacting on a level that speaks to the culture and seeks to put it in the spotlight in its entirety and not in piecemeal, was the goal. For my art, I try to reflect my love of it all wholesale, because that is the whole point of being genre fluid.
