Dan Deacon Instagram - Went to the Oscars and walked the red carpet with the @ascensiondocumentary team!

Brief and incomplete summary of highlights:
It was bonkers.
-Anthony Hopkins told me he liked my hat.
-Met Bill Murray and I could hardly speak.
-The chocolate Oscar’s at the Afterparty are coated in a gold glitter that gets on everything you touch.
-They do not want you to take table cloths home and ask you to put it back if you try to wrap up a chocolate Oscar in it so you stop getting gold powder on everything.

Thanks to event who sent me pictures when they spotted my hat on TV.

THANK YOU so much to @jk_or_am_i for including me on the team for Ascension and having such a brilliant and unique vision!!!! I love this film. I love working with you and I am so beyond excited to see what you create next!!!

Congrats to the whole team! It was amazing to celebrate how far this super weird movie has made it.

Congrats to @questlove and the whole Summer Of Soul team for your well deserved win!

Ok flying to join back up with the @futureislands tour. See you soon Dublin! Thank you so much to all of you for your support in my weird life ❤️

Dan Deacon Instagram - Hi! I’m here to announce my shows between now and June! Really excited to get back on the road and get to some places I haven’t been in ages or have never played before. Tickets go on sale tomorrow at 10 am local time.
Dan Deacon Instagram - I’m ecstatic to let you know I’ll be back on tour this fall! Tickets go on sale Friday! Dates in the second image and more info at link in bio!

Ok so I know touring still seems insane but I am hopeful that by the time October comes, all of this feels like a cast taken off a fully mended limb. The last year has shown just how vital social events, celebrations, and, most importantly, being together are. The way a walk through the woods rejuvenates the spirit, being in a crowd dancing, with sounds and lights washing over you, has a unique healing and unifying quality. The extraordinary euphoria from sharing a moment with a group of people is one of the most special feelings, and I cannot wait to experience it again with you.

My shows have been centered around audience immersion, creating an atmosphere where people can collectively celebrate a simultaneously created experience. The only way for this show, or any show, to succeed is if the audience feels comfortable enough to lose themselves in the moment. It goes without saying but all our shows will be following the most up-to-date CDC guidelines.

Please only come to a show if you are fully vaccinated.
Rule #1 is Safety First.
Rule #2 is Sassy As Fuck At All Times.

Edit: all previously purchased tickets that were not refunded will be honored. me or my team will reach out if anyone has questions.

Dan Deacon Instagram - Today I’m 39 years old and I truly love cake 🍰Perhaps unrelated, @talkhouse asked me to write up an essay on how I’ve been dealing with covid times for their ‘Way Forward’ Column. It was a nice experience putting it together and thinking about the last (nearly) 6 months and thinking about present and future with that same lens. The link is in my bio if you’d like to check it out. Sadly there are no mentions of cake.
Dan Deacon Instagram - Kevin was one of the most intense people I knew. He was intense about his passions, his drumming was intense, his kindness and gentle nature were intense kindness and extreme softness, his stoicism was intense and his mysterious nature was intense. His hatred for modern technology was intense. His love of puns was in tents. He was someone who was both of the past and the future, always at odds with the now. I could only know him the way I knew him as others would know him in their own unique way. I love the person he was when he shared time with me.

As a person he was a most beautiful tree: powerful and peaceful, a great listener that was at all times growing and always giving. And almost always covered in dirt. He was extremely special. The passion he put into the things that inspired him inspired all around him. I feel so intensely lucky to have know him, played so much music with him, traveled around the word with him countless times and to most of all count him as a friend. I love him and I’m sad he’s gone.

Grief is easily the most intense and complex beast of them all, always changing and shifting. Grief has deep, wide asymmetrical tides with waves of intensity that range from waves we can can ride out that don’t overwhelm but still feel their weight, waves we barely notice as grief but still move through us leaving their reverberance, and some waves that crash down on us leaving us wrecked and tumbled on the beach of our most raw emotions.

Grief is on going. It’s changes as we change. As time moves the grief comes with us in its new form as we are in our new forms. It mixes and mingles with old grief and becomes a new thing entirely. Grief isn’t bad. Grief is there to help us deal with the most sad things we can never truly understand or come to terms with. Grief is a warm blanket saying it’s ok to feel the feelings in the full spectrum of intensities that they come in, it’s good to remember and acknowledge the loss in all the ways you never thought possible.

I miss Kevin and I’ll miss Kevin in new ways throughout the rest of life. I’ve never met another person even close to being like him. The world was a better place with him in it.

Dan Deacon Instagram - Hi! I’m doing a live stream tomorrow at the @blogotheque Instagram page....... Since the Mystic Familiar tour got put in hold last month I’ve been quietly hibernating at home, feeling the heavy feelings of this situation.
I’m really glad Blogotheque asked me to do this live stream on their Instagram. I haven’t unpacked my equipment since tour got put on hold. This livestream has given me a nice motivator to shake off the dust and start the gears moving again.
If it goes well I hope to do more of them. If it doesn’t go well I hope to learn from it and then do more of them.
It’s on at 1pm Baltimore/NYC time a nd other times are listed on the flyer in the second photo.

Dan Deacon Instagram - exciting news tomorrow!

Thanks for pointing out the typo @hemlock_ernst
Dan Deacon Instagram - Mystic Familiar is 1 year old today! Thank you so much to everyone who has listened, listens and will one day listen. Thank you @dominorecordco for releasing the album and supporting my music for the last 10 years and thank you to all the musicians that inspired and inspire me to explore what music can be. Thank you everyone ❤️
Dan Deacon Instagram - Felt cute.

Also thanks to the 100k people out there who follow me on Spotify, I just got the email about reaching that milestone and want to say thanks. I appreciate all of you listening to my music no matter where or how you listen to it. For real it means so much to me.

I hope to have the web-store back open soon but until then I’ll be doing this to my face/head.
Dan Deacon Instagram - This weekend was F U N! Thanks LA & SF for making my first shows back real special! Real excited for PDX, SEA, NM this weekend and the rest of the tour after that!
Dan Deacon Instagram - Hi! Tour starts tonight in LA. The last time I was here was March 13th 2020, we drove the bus to an RV park by the airport and basically waited for the world to end and shutdown to being. The last few photos are from that weird night back in 2020.

Feels surreal to be back, picking up where I left off. So much is different now. Feels like a parallel universe.

I’m glad to be doing these few shows now and for anyone in a city that couldn’t happen on this run, please know it wasn’t an easy choice to make.

I am doing the best I can to transition back into touring after such a long and insane break from it.

Stay safe, get \/axxed, mask up, sassy as fuck at all times

Dan Deacon Instagram - Thank you so much to everyone who tuned in to watch the live stream I did at @blogotheque ! If you missed it, it’ll be up in their stories for the next 23 hours.
Both fun and emotional, I got very teary eyed setting up but very glad to have done it. I will for sure do more, next time incorporate some aspect of participation for folks at home who want to participate.
Also, since these live streams are a new kind of show I want to try out songs of mine that I don’t normally play live at shows or alternate versions of some songs. If you have any requests or suggestions I would love to know what you’d like me to perform in the future.
Ok, thanks again everyone! I really needed that!
Dan Deacon Instagram - HUSTLE the new @adamsandler film that I scored will be out June 8th on @netflix and in select theaters in early June!!! Dan Deacon Instagram - I did a @futureislands remix! I’ve been so totally slammed in the studio that I haven’t been able to post about this until now but I’m SO happy with this remix and so excited to finally share it! The link in my bio has a link to the location of links to find the remix. Here is my statement on the remix:

Like most people, the last year has made me realize how important my friends are to me, and how much I miss being with them. When the guys released "For Sure," it really brought me back to memories of when we lived together and I could hear them practicing in the basement, or could just go down stairs and plop on the couch next to them to watch a movie or play video games. I kept listening to the song over and over and wanted to hear it "more," if that makes sense. I wanted to hear the individual parts, and I wanted to hang out with them and interact with them. When I got the stems I didn't really have a plan for the remix other than I wanted to hear Sam's voice with piano and strings, and it just started growing from there in an organic way. It was a comforting project that brought me close to people I love and missed very much. One of my favorite things about being a musician are the friendships and bonds that are made through it. It's hard to imagine my life, let alone my music, without having met these bozos. ❤️

The amazing @cdaura who created the beautiful artwork for Mystic Familiar did the artwork for this remix and the best of the biz @heba_kadry mastered the remix.

Thank you to the cast for being fucking sick as hell and wildly fun to write music for. LaKeith Stanfield, Clark Backo, Adina Porter, Alexis Louder, Jared Abrahamson, Malcolm Barrett, and my main man Samuel T. Herring for crushing it so hard!

Thanks so much to all my musical collaborators. Your performances and exploratory playing are the essence of this music!!!! Strings: Niccolo Seligmann, Ledah Finck, Peter Kibbe, Will Yager, Sarah Thomas, Amy Huimei Tan, Irène Han. Winds: James Young, Jennifer Tscheulin, Rose Hammer Burt. Brass: Patrick McMinn, Sarah Manley, Daniel Bradley. Voice: Samuel T. Herring, Allison Clendaniel, Taylor Boykins, Megan Livingston. Percussion: Will Hicks, Bashi Rose, Jeremy Hyman. Engineers and Technicians: Chester Gwazda, Craig Bowen, Alex Silva, and Albert Schatz. (If I left anyone out, I am so sorry! It's 7:27pm, and I'm writing this now. I forgot the show went on the air tonight, and I suck at social media!) James Young for all the wild orchestration/transcription/research/player wrangling/being wonderful

OK! Please watch the show! Please tell Apple to release the score (for real)!

Dan Deacon Instagram - I have a new piece of music on a limited edition cassette compilation of all music made with Buchla Synthesizers: Buchla Now! Buchla Now features music from Marcia Bassett, Suzanne Ciani, Dan Deacon, Jonathan Fitoussi, Steve Horelick, Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith, Hans Tammen, and compilation curator Todd Barton. The tape is limited to 300 copies and comes with a DL code as well. (Link in bio)

The release also celebrates the 5th year and 20th release of the cassette label Ultraviolet Light, which my dear friend Jimmy Joe Roche runs.

I composed and performed my piece ‘Unseen Objects’ using the newly released Buchla Easel Command, which is the synth in the first photo here. It was really fun to build and patch all the drums from scratch and then explore the other voices as well.

It’s a great comp and I’m really happy to be apart of it. Thanks Todd and Jimmy for having me be apart of this collection of amazing musicians on amazing synthesizers!

Dan Deacon - 6.5K Likes - Went to the Oscars and walked the red carpet with the @ascensiondocumentary team!

Dan Deacon - 4.3K Likes - I’m ecstatic to let you know I’ll be back on tour this fall!

Caption : I’m ecstatic to let you know I’ll be back on tour this fall! Dan Deacon - 4K Likes - Today I’m 39 years old and I truly love cake 🍰Perhaps unrelated, @talkhouse asked me to write up an essay on how I’ve been dealing with covid times for their ‘Way Forward’ Column. It was a nice experience putting it together and thinking about the last (nearly) 6 months and thinking about present and future with that same lens. The link is in my bio if you’d like to check it out. Sadly there are no mentions of cake.

Dan Deacon - 3.9K Likes - Kevin was one of the most intense people I knew.

Dan Deacon - 3.9K Likes - Kevin was one of the most intense people I knew.

Dan Deacon - 2.9K Likes - Hi!

Dan Deacon - 2.5K Likes - Hi!

I am doing the best I can to transition back into touring after such a long and insane break from it. Stay safe, get \/axxed, mask up, sassy as fuck at all times

Dan Deacon - 1.9K Likes - Thank you so much to everyone who tuned in to watch the live stream I did at @blogotheque !

Dan Deacon - 1.9K Likes - I did a @futureislands remix!

Dan Deacon - 1.8K Likes - I had the tremendous pleasure of scoring The Changeling, which premiers tonight on AppleTV! Thank you so much to everyone who made scoring this series an absolute pleasure. Watch the show! Tell Apple to release the score!

Thank you so much to writer/showrunner/absolute sorcerer Kelly Marcel for being my champion throughout the process. I can't thank you enough. Additionally, thank you, Melina Matsoukas, David Knoller, and Jonathan van Tulleken, for being next-level collaborative partners through the scoring process. Thank you to music editor Joe Mancuso and the fantastic post team Jennifer Renaud and Gary Mueller. Thanks to the folks at Annapurna for producing.

Dan Deacon - 1.6K Likes - I have a new piece of music on a limited edition cassette compilation of all music made with Buchla Synthesizers: Buchla Now!
