Mary Katharine Ham Instagram - A pleasure to be able to disagree with my old friend Juan in person once again, and not just bc he insisted we take a pic showing off the guns (which are not yet in peak condition, but my heavy toddler and baby are helping!), but that didn’t hurt. Thanks to @shannonbream for having me! She is the totalest of total pros on @foxnewssunday. Swipe for a normal photo if that’s your thing. Someone on Twitter suggested I spend some of my money on sleeves for my dresses. To that I say NEVER. πŸ’ͺ🏼

Mary Katharine Ham Instagram - When it’s probably the last Christmas party you’re making it to this year, you take your two big kids and your green disco ball baby out too late and eat too many cookies @ksoltisanderson’s house!

I assume this the only time in my life when a maternity unitard, a green sequin tank top, an oversized 80s blazer with shoulder pads and these β€œHot Tub Time Machine” ski lodge boots will be exactly the correct vibe, and I’m thankful I found my moment. Now, I’m wearing sweatpants for the rest of the year. β€οΈπŸŽ„πŸ’š

Someone asked, so blazer = Goodwill, unitard = @nuuly, boots = thrift store, green top = BCBG outlet in the Year of our Lord 2003.

Mary Katharine Ham Instagram - My friend Alice left us yesterday, far too soon. She was a real light in this world. Many people have used the word kind in paying tribute to her, and it’s not coincidence. She was unfailingly kind in a way that told everyone she met that she cared about what they cared about. It was probably that quality that made her so good at her job. At its best, public policy is an endeavor to understand what other people care about most and speak to it.

We shared a delight in the Dawgs, and in being the ideological outlier in a room, whether it was on a TV panel or a college campus. We both loved a good tough run and Jesus. I admired her so much.

We crossed paths in Little Rock, her longtime home, right before the pandemic. I was giving a speech, she was helping organize the Little Rock Marathon. We went out for a beer and talked about life in that way that comes a little easier when you’re in a city one of you calls home, away from the bustle of D.C. She gave me a recommendation for a hike and a BBQ joint. I tried both and almost missed my flight watching a sunrise at the top of an Arkansas peak. We laughed at the idea that we live mere miles from each other but saved getting together for a random night halfway across the country.

I saw her and stayed in touch plenty after that but that night felt special because it came before life changed in such unforeseeable ways. Now, it has changed again in an unforeseeable way.

We always said we should run together, but if I’m honest, she was too fast for me. It is hard to believe that this faithful servant has fought the good fight and finished her race. But if you knew Alice, you knew she was every day β€œrunning with perseverance the race marked out for [her], fixing [her] eyes on Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.”

The last thing I said to her was she looked β€œGORGEOUS IN GOLD” for the White House Correspondents Dinner. She looked so great, it was worth all caps. This feels so awful and inexplicable here.
But I've heard the streets are gold where she is going, and I pray she is having the most gorgeous run there now. I'll miss her.

Mary Katharine Ham Instagram - Look, I don’t usually wear the band’s t-shirt to the concert, but what are the rules for live podcasts anyway? For the progrum, I wear merch!
Mary Katharine Ham Instagram - Costume szn is here. Steve and I had a legit argument about how best to affix the fox ears from a slutty fox costume to a Robin Hood hat and how to make an arrow out of a chop stick and some old peacock feathers and tin foil. But as you can see from Pic 2, the hat and arrow construction are solid. We arrived too late to be voted on for the costume contest and I’m kicking myself. That’ll teach me to be late to the party! I know this era of Disney isn’t supposed to be good, according to the critics and stuff, but I’ve always loved this movie. Maybe it’s the country crooner rooster.

Mary Katharine Ham Instagram - I went to Chicago by myself. I wore heels and spoke at the Chicago Humanities Festival and walked around the city in a coat I’m very glad I brought and finished most of a book and visited a Gilded Age mansion and ate pizza and saw my best-selling author friend @kattimpf make jokes about her trauma on stage with @guypbenson and then we had beers! πŸ˜‚ It was great!

Mary Katharine Ham Instagram - We are super thankful for this guy, who is among the most active and involved dads there is! We test his capacity for executive function and dedication daily, but he always comes through, rarely missing leg day, looking great in bunny ears and other costumes, and literally never forgetting to take out the trash. Really, it’s kind of amazing! The kids have learned so much from him, making them independent and self-sufficient in ways beyond their years. (The 18-month-old brings diapers and wipes, puts them back where they belong after diaper changes, and throws her dirty diapers in the trash.) It’s nearly impossible to get a pic of him with all four kids because it turns out having four kids involves a lot of passing them back and forth to each other in configurations of 2-and-2 or 3-and-1, but he is always there for all of them and for me. We love him and are lucky to have him! πŸ’™πŸ§”πŸ»β€β™‚οΈπŸ‘©πŸ»πŸ‘±πŸ»β€β™€οΈπŸ‘±πŸΌβ€β™€οΈπŸ‘§πŸΌπŸ‘ΆπŸ»πŸΊ

Mary Katharine Ham Instagram - This gal turned two! For those keeping count, that means we had two under two… for 9.5 months. And we’re still standing! A lot of the credit for that goes to Holly, who much like her father, has a GIANT personality and also loves a schedule. That means she sleeps. Hallelujah, can that girl sleep, from 6pm-7am, in the same room as her brother.

When we say β€œbedtime for baby?” after two episodes of β€œBluey,” our girl marches herself up the stairs to get her zzzzs. β€œBye, guys! Bye, guys! Bye, Guggy!” (this is either doggie or Garnet, we’re not sure which) She is a woman of few words.

She says β€œDad” constantly, β€œwow” and β€œScout” and β€œstop” and β€œdon’t,” usually to her bro. She has a long-running joke where I ask her to say β€œMama,” and she mouths it without actually saying anything and then laughs because, let’s face it, that’s funny. But she resorts to β€œMama” when she’s very sad, which isn’t often.

She is good-natured and very physical. The other day, I told her to say β€œplease,” and I would lift her over the couch, and she was stubborn about β€œplease” and simply hoisted herself over the couch with a ridiculous display of brute upper body strength.

She is newly into books, but her brute strength makes her the first kid I’ve ever had capable of destroying board books. She might be the most problem-solving kid I’ve had. She untied, collapsed and removed the tent pole from her little play tent in the living room while I wasn’t looking the other day, then uncollapsed it to hold up in front of me. (Meanwhile, her brother is already saying β€œbottle” in an effort to defend himself against her when she steals his bottle, which is often).

Watching her play is a bit like watching the velociraptors test the fences. β€œClever girl.” She loves to clean (also gets that from Dad), brings her own diapers for diaper changes and throws the dirty ones away. She’s just started doing β€œbig hugs” and will hug you and sigh and pat you on the back. Sings along with β€œDaniel Tiger” and loves cheese, ham, and anything I’m eating.

She has made a lot of our lives possible the last 9 months by just being her and, boy, do we love her! Can’t wait to see her grow!

Mary Katharine Ham Instagram - I wore this to record a podcast with @meghanmccain yesterday because the deal I make with myself is that if I’m wearing these outfits that might potentially embarrass my children, I also must wear them in my real life, so that I have some skin in the game. Given that I wore this to a professional event, I think that’s all the more reason you should listen to β€œMeghan McCain Has Entered the Chat” with @guypbenson and me. πŸ˜‚But also because Meghan is a good interviewer and an interesting political observer, which is why her podcast is killing. Tune in at the link in bio! Or find it in my stories!
Mary Katharine Ham Instagram - My friends, on this beautiful Veterans Day Weekend, you can donate to the wonderful cause of @HomesForOurTrps at this auction for a little Zoom cocktail time with @guypbenson and me. We will have a great time & help vets! (Link in bio!)
Mary Katharine Ham Instagram - β€œ[T]hey found the stone rolled away from the tomb. Then they went in and did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. And it happened, as they were greatly perplexed about this, that behold, two men stood by them in shining garments.

Then, as they were afraid and bowed their faces to the earth, they said to them, β€œWhy do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here. He is risen! Remember how He spoke to you when He was still in Galilee, saying, β€˜The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.’” Luke 24: 2-7

Mary Katharine Ham - 2.6K Likes - My friend Alice left us yesterday, far too soon.

But if you knew Alice, you knew she was every day β€œrunning with perseverance the race marked out for [her], fixing [her] eyes on Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.” The last thing I said to her was she looked β€œGORGEOUS IN GOLD” for the White House Correspondents Dinner. She looked so great, it was worth all caps. This feels so awful and inexplicable here. But I’ve heard the streets are gold where she is going, and I pray she is having the most gorgeous run there now. I’ll miss her.

Mary Katharine Ham - 2.3K Likes - Costume szn is here.

Mary Katharine Ham - 2.2K Likes - We are super thankful for this guy, who is among the most active and involved dads there is!

Mary Katharine Ham - 1.9K Likes - This gal turned two!

This time, I’m obviously preparing to launch my exploratory committee for a presidential run, so it’s a little different. Ha, just kidding. Just came for work. #sheisdefinitelynotrunning
