Caption : Tonight should have been about helping the families and communities of those children and adults who are in hospital – one little five year old girl in a critical condition – a vigil to show our support for the grief and trauma of those children and all their school friends who witnessed that terrible incident. I am always proud of our city… and we will come together I hope in solidarity with all those scared and worried tonight… but for now, while the world has gone a bit crazy, I light candles for those injured and traumatised in hopes that we will be able to show our heartfelt love and empathy for those families left devastated by todays horrific events #GaelscoilCholáisteMhuire #parnellsquare 💚Likes : 3487

Caption : The beautiful, vivacious and phenomenal Mags Casey left this world earlier today. She was the centre of our universe and the queen of the Phoenix Park. They say it takes a village to raise a child … maybe – I’ve never been sure about that analogy But what I do know is that it takes a village to carry someone you love from this world to the next. Family and close friends who ignite emotions and memories – who bring a lifetime of love to ease the fear and strangeness. People who you’ve never met.. who bring empathy and care and tolerance. We were blessed that Mags spent her final days at St Mary’s in @phoenixparkopw where the incredible team minded her and gave her and us the most precious gift of all… a beautiful and peaceful passing from this life to the next. She loved the Park where she lived for the past 70 years and as she quietly slipped away today the deer kept vigil outside, peacefully resting on the grass in the grounds of the chapel. I would say Rest in Peace… but I suspect God and St Peter have just been given a list of jobs to do! Here’s hoping you’re enjoying the best cognac in heaven Mags with our dad Harry, sister Betty and my own lovely Richard. Our hearts are broken and we miss you already #ripmagscaseyLikes : 3458

Caption : Today is always a bit strange for me… it’s my wedding anniversary, or would have been had Richard not passed away – so a special day. But the perfect day to marry the person you love turned into a day I dreaded when he died. Then eventually I endured that day and now, surprisingly perhaps… I celebrate it. What a privilege to see a new year in and to wonder about all the possibilities that life holds – for me, my son Dara and all the people who are important to me. I won’t lie… I usually spend more time drifting into folders of photos from over the years, all the great moments, holidays, dinners, family occasions, days with good friends… than I do on TV on this day. But I am always left with the strongest sense that it’s never the material things… the cars, the dress, the new sofa that I think about when I look back – it’s the time I spent with people who matter and a new year is about imagining all the great moments and experiences still to come. That rarely involves the gym, the diet the achievements – it’s always about the greatest gift of all. Love, happiness, treasured moments with good friends and lots of laughter. I hope 2024 is the #yearoffun for all of you. Happy New Year – treasure all those great moments that make a lifetime of memories – here’s to 2024 and all she has in store for us – love and blessings from me and @dara_casey #happynewyear2024 #enjoyeverymoment 💚Likes : 1853

Caption : WE ARE STARDUST… In my house I have a light installation by artist Oisin Byrne called “we are stardust”. It’s a magical recreation of two people intertwined in starlight and it has always lived at the top of the stairs leading to our bedroom. Richard had cancer in most of his major organs but it was the cancer in his spine that was the most debilitating. And as it became harder and harder for him to climb those stairs he would stare at that installation as he paused to catch his breath and gather his strength to take another step. Some evenings we remained there for 30 minutes or more as he steadfastly made his way purposefully up those stairs – refusing all offers of help. Most of these journeys would begin with Dara and myself encouraging him, distracting him. Dara would try to tell him something funny – trying to find normality in the tragic circumstances that led to his wonderful strong dad making that painful journey. Sometimes we ran out of words. It was during one of those long moments of silence that Richard paused and said “I believe in star dust” – it was a phrase that he repeated often after that – a sort of mantra that gave him the grit to see through those terrible days – a comfort that he would re-join the cosmos from whence he came. The light installation was so important to him. Yet if you analyse it – decompose it – what it amounts to is a light shining through pinpricks on paper. But the key is the light – the illumination. Because stars are only a vast collection of matter. It is only the tumultuous reactions of that spinning and thumping and heaving that releases the energy and creates the light that shines so brightly we can see it here on earth. Sending a million hugs to all who live with and beyond cancer and those, like me, who miss the stars we have lost that shone brightly in our lives. The stardust that makes up our universe #worldcancerdayLikes : 951

Caption : It’s been a week… but as that wise gal #dollyparton says: “Storms make trees take deeper roots” I won’t lie… stormy weather affects my energy and I know I’m not alone. Those dark skies rest heavy on my mood and I have to dig deep into that store of will power to get out for a walk on the bleakest of days… when I often need that blast of fresh air and walking therapy most. But I guess life is a little like that too and we can all have stormy days that have nothing to do with the rain… and we learn to weather them. Sending love to all those going through those #lifestorms right now. They will pass but sometimes it doesn’t feel like it when you’re going through it. Myself and many others reading this are living proof that there is life even after the most tumultuous of storms that wreak havoc on our lives. There are always better days ahead – stay strong, let those roots grow deeper and keep that hope in your heart alive. This too will pass 💚Likes : 410

Caption : We make strong women fierce because we really don’t believe that the meek will inherit the earth. And so it is that we have two enduring and opposing images of Brigid – the saintly abbess and the fierce goddess. Maybe she’s both. I’ve never felt comfortable with well meaning people depicting me as a Dragon – I was also a nurse and at times I am the furthest thing from what you might imagine a Dragon to be. Maybe like Brigid we are all a bit more complex and what you see on the surface is not who we really are. I know many quiet introverts who could rule the world and seemingly feisty women who struggle with that ‘imposter syndrome’. Like Brigid – we are all hybrids. A perfect incarnation of all those complex traits that make us who we are – at times meek at times fierce. Our physical appearance rarely reveals what lies beneath. As for Brigid…she was smart, feisty, kind and independent, she was one cool saint, a champion of the poor and women and a beacon of tolerance – here’s to our Matron Saint Brigid today and all the great women warriors of Ireland – the quiet and the fierce. Maybe we don’t always have to be feisty or meek to inherit the earth – just true to ourselves 💚 #láféilebríde #stbrigidsdayLikes : 352

Caption : Of course as we go through life Christmas also reminds us of absences, the family and loved ones we miss, those who have gone and those who can’t be with us. Like many people I have certainly been through difficult Christmases and it takes time to rediscover the wonderfulness. And I’m always late putting up the tree… but I get there eventually 😅 When I was growing up the tree didn’t go up until Christmas week. It was all about the excitement and anticipation. And thankfully the pre-Christmas flutters were mercifully short, starting when the school bell signalled the start of the holidays and we raced home to help put up the tree, just days before the big day. My dad brought down the biscuit tin filled with tinsel and home made decorations by the Casey kids. It also held a very important list… and it wasn’t Santy’s! My dad #harrycasey wrote down the price of the pint every Christmas and he ceremoniously filled in the cost bemoaning the tragedy of Guinness inflation while we fought over who would place the star on the top of the tree. Mostly our home was filled with holly and fir from the Phoenix Park and we had our own reindeer waiting patiently on those frosty days for Santy to collect them on Christmas Eve. What could be more magical. I like reusing those lovely treasured pieces from over the years that remind me of Dara’s first Christmas, the trip to London when myself and a great friend bought some (far too high-priced) baubles in Harrods, the now very chipped, but rich with memories, crib and bits and bobs that we collected on holidays. I take them all up from the basement and mix them up a bit so every year the house looks different. Last year I splashed out on some green tree decorations to mix in with the mainly white and gold that I have collected for decades. It is always beautiful to me and yours will be the same, however you choose to transform your home for the festive season… Christmas Trees are #memorytrees🎄 💚Likes : 344

Caption : Well… maybe it’s the jet lag… but today was a very emotional day. Like so many people I have lost someone I loved a great deal to cancer. So the herculean work of @mariekeatingfoundation who support people who live with and beyond cancer is a charity close to my heart … and the hero of that charity has always been @lkeatingmkf – who as a daughter, dealing with loss, took on the challenge on behalf of her beautiful family to do something meaningful and lasting as part of her mum’s legacy – and so many people have joined her on that journey, and the foundation has gone from strength to strength but the lynchpin, the spark, the tornado that drove so many of us to help and support @mariekeatingfoundation is Linda – today is her last official event at the helm of the phenomenal fundraising programme – she’s not only an amazing person, kind, empathetic and passionate – she has represented the Keating family and honoured their incredible mother in ways few of us daughters will ever be able to do… these are the before pics…. Cause there was a lot less mascara in the after pics… she’s inspirational and too humble to take a bow… so we all stood for a long time to recognise all she has achieved over those years and I’m proud to know her and play a tiny infinitesimal part in helping her #lindakeating #mywomanoftheyeareveryyear ❤️ @garykeating21 @rokeating 🙌Likes : 338
