I’m finishing another @westknits #StephenWest design. He always brings out such a deep sense of creativity and self-expression. This one is for @wilsonburtle made out of @lionbrandyarn’s super easy-care #mandala yarn in the color story #Groot. I think #StephenWest designs are always almost a test of how comfortable you are in your own skin. What sometimes at first seems more wild than you think you’re comfortable with quickly illicits such joy once you put it on. They are maybe not for everyone, but actually, maybe they really are but most of us just don’t know how good it feels to be wrapped in something so simply unapologetic. #WearSomethingWild. #knitprovisation #knitprovisationshawl

So I spent a week chasing my resilient mom, who took a bit of a tumble and seriously slashed up her leg. But look at her now! She really spends a lot of her energy making sure nothing gets in her way; always has. Very relieved her wounds are healing properly and she doesn’t need the oxy anymore! We spent a few days not moving, then after a doctor’s appointment graduated to lunches and even shopping (thanks to a trusty wheelchair). We even reorganized her kitchen and purged some stuff. She has a glass of white wine at 5 o’clock sharp and a record breaking collection of paper shopping bags waiting patiently to be repurposed. Look at that punum!
So I guess somebody is gonna see this and try to tell me the #Library is a bad place? I’m so sorry, no, the Library is not the enemy. I’ve been spending a lot of time at the library lately working on something new and it’s an unbelievably good place. The @bklynlibrary is for everyone. Not only are there amazing teen and kid programs here, but the entire Library Philosophy is about self-betterment. #EmbraceFreeThought. #EmbraceFreeLearning This is a sweater I rescued from the archives, it’s either a vintage #pinguoin or @phildar_officiel pattern. Alternate view of the latest @westknits project, the #knitprovisationshawl. Always really fun to give it its first bath and lay it out flat. I made this with @lionbrandyarn’s #mandala yarn in the colorstory #Groot. I cut up the various self-striping sections and used them separately so it’s really #lionbrandyarn that did all the heavy lifting picking out the colors. I don’t always do it that way but I wanted to see how that would work and I like it. If you’re color-phobic you don’t have to be! Also, don’t be color-phobic! I had to make a few adjustments (sections 1 and 5 should be the same gray-green but I ran out so I had to sneak in a gray-plum color, and I also had to use multiple alternating colors for the final wavy stripes for the same reason) but hey, sometimes when one door closes a window opens. This one didn’t take long at all. I like the “stitch sampler” vibe of it.
Happy Halloween everybody. @jacksonfoowong’s 2nd Halloween. Mom and I made this outta stuff we had around! We were very proud of it.
Mom and I had a wonderful dinner tonight with our new friend Fred at @ossosteakhouse on Nob Hill and as we walked there from Fred’s apartment, we passed @gracecathedral, and we rarely stroll casually by @gracecathedral not in a car so I had to seize the photo opp. I’m so glad I did! We’ve had a very nice productive week moving Mom and as always, eating wonderful food. Nice to pause and celebrate the architecture for a change. Love my hometown! I love the sky in this pic.
Our #saturdaynightdinner this week was Pressure Cooker #Lambshanks with Figs from the @testkitchen @cooksillustrated wonderful #MeatIllustrated cookbook, as well as #Briam (Greek mixed roasted vegetables; zucchini, tomatoes, potatoes and onions) with No-Fail #Popovers from the also wonderful @cooksillustrated 2021 book. Everything turned out wonderfully. Who doesn’t love popovers?! Special thanks to @brianjfranklin! Apron from @publicanquality #meats, a must visit when in #Chicago. oh yeah, #lambshanks from @dellapietrasmeats
