A phrase in Icelanders use to say that the world is a strange place or the world is nuts… there’s another one: Enginn Verður óbarinn Biskup which translates to “Nobody becomes an Unbeaten Bishop”… in other words – any worthy achievement requires trial and error or no pain, no gain. These little sayings rang a little extra true while hunting for good surf all around Iceland in winter of 2021 – on a shoot for Billabong, so we decided we’d make a film about the trip based on these phrases and few more – guiding our ethos while dealing with icy waters, long days in elements, or feeding pancakes to the dog.
