We were fortune to have two members of the Greatest Generation visit the @mohmuseum today. USMC Corporal Don Graves, on my right in the black shirt, and Navy sailor Jack Stowe, in the white shirt. Both gentlemen fought in the Pacific Theater during #ww2 Don, 98 years young, was a flame thrower on Iwo Jima and was a few yards away from the photographer when the iconic photo was taken of Marines raising the flag on top of Mt Suribachi. Jack, 97, was a crew member of several ships transporting troops and cargo, to include supporting Guadalcanal. Gentlemen, thank you, it was truly an honor to learn about your stories and heroic service. @usnavy @marines #worldwar2 #iwojima #guadalcanal
@marines Corporal Don Graves was one of only 18 men of his 335 man battalion to leave Iwo Jima alive. Every minute I’m lucky enough to spend with him, leaves me more alive. Thank you, Don.

I was immediately impressed with his compassionate leadership and the sincere care with which he listened in every conversation. Fast forward 20 years, and not only is he a great supporter of the @mohmuseum but I am proud to call him a friend. #thankyou Mr Secretary for your decades of service to our nation and outstanding leadership!
