Jimmy Chin Instagram – In 2000, General Tahir of Pakistan’s Northern Command graciously offered to send a Pakistani special forces team to accompany @highsteph @davide_anderson @brady_robinson and me to the Kondus Valley. The area was rarely visited due to its proximity to the Siachen Glacier, where the world’s highest war had been waging for decades. We spent plenty of time trading stories with the soldiers, just like anyone else. They were curious about what our lives were like at home and we were curious about theirs. We ended up climbing a beautiful tower in the valley. We named the route “All Quiet on the Eastern Front” for the “thump thump” of shelling we could hear from our portaledge camps on the wall. We named the tower Tahir Tower after our gracious host.
