I always admired Joe Lieberman’s independent streak. His willingness to buck the party line and support those on the other side of the aisle was a refreshing rarity in Washington, and it’s a big reason why I endorsed him when we belonged to different parties. He put country over party, and at a time of deep polarization, we need more of his spirit in our politics.
When we partnered on the Beyond Coal campaign with @SierraClub over a decade ago, there were eight operating coal plants in New England. Now, there’s soon to be ZERO. The CO2 reductions from retiring these plants is the equivalent of taking over 3.1 million cars off the road for one year. 🚗

At COP21 in 2015 — as national leaders from 196 countries signed on to the Paris Agreement — Mayor @annehidalgo and I brought mayors together on the sidelines of the climate talks to elevate the role of local climate action in the work to protect our planet.
