I went to the the @madonna concert and I was the old lady who left her phone tucked away in her bag. I just wanted to absorb it all and appreciate and be present to the moment that I was having. I loved the show and @bobthedragqueen was wonderful, I was so proud seeing him own that huge stage alongside the iconic @madonna. The dancers were all so phenomenal and beautiful and the show was just SO QUEER! As a young gay man, Madonna meant so much to me. She spoke openly about Aids, she played with sexuality and allowed it to be fluid, she gave us an onscreen gay kiss in Truth or Dare, and her music was a soundtrack to my life. She was unapologetic in her support of the LGBTQ community and for that alone I’ll always be a fan.

Ruining Halloween with dumb shit!
As I embark on my journey today to the UK for my small tour there, I’m once again plagued by my anxiety about things I can’t control. I pulled out this photo today to remind myself that there was a time when I felt perfect and comfortable in this world, a time when I was unaware of the cruelty that would rob me of my safety, joy, education and self worth and replace it with fear, doubt and self loathing. Creating Coco has helped me regain so much of what was lost, but it still creeps in. I love this song by @serpentwithfeet and the lyric, “Keep a tender heart.” I’m taking that thought with me today. And if you don’t know Serpentwithfeet, he’s an amazing artist. I LOVE him.

This is David. My mother found him in her church’s charity shop and felt sorry for him. He was naked and abandoned and, although she knew it was ridiculous to feel sorry for a doll, she wanted to comfort him. So, she bought him, took him home, knitted him this outfit and named him David. Last night my mom had one of her nightmares and woke up yelling, “Where’s my baby?” She was frantic and crying and, because of the dementia, it was real to her. Not knowing how to comfort her I saw David sitting there with her other dolls and I grabbed him and said, “Here’s your baby!” She held him and smiled. We always laughed at my mom needing to comfort an abandoned doll, but last night David was able to return the favor. I’m still hoping to reach my goal and keep my mom at home.
