Mstyslav Chernov Instagram – As daylight broke Ukrainian soldiers from the Code 9.2 drone team made their way to a launch point near Klischiivka, a village that sits around 6 miles (10km) from Bakhmut.
They unloaded equipment from their vehicle and began preparations to take flight.
After months of fighting, officials said on September 17 Ukraine had recaptured Klischiivka, two days after it said it had won back neighbouring Andriivka.
The soldiers said that the use of drones had allowed them to move beyond the village.
“Drones are playing a key role right now,” said the commander of the drone team who goes by the call-sign “Flint”.
“Specifically in the liberation of Klishchiivka and Andriivka, they also played a role. They participated in the overall operation to liberate these settlements,” he added.
Both Klischiivka and Andriivka are tiny villages but are considered tactically important for Ukrainian forces as they extend gains around Bakhmut.
The commanding heights of the village offers a view into the Russian-occupied town of Bakhmut and opens up new opportunities for Ukrainian forces to encircle the town.
It also potentially allows Ukrainians a better view of Russian logistic lines.
