I feel so fortunate to say Lamont Dozier was a friend. His Songwriting rescued me during my youth and to this day continues to do so. I experienced a moment of a lifetime – which was to write and record a song with him: “Forever Right or Wrong” on my “For the Love of Strange Medicine” LP. While recording my vocals, as he was sitting in the studio next to me, I was having a tough time finding the right performance for one of our vocal lines. I turned to him and asked him what he thought I should do differently? He said, “Oh don’t worry about it. All we’re trying to do is sell a feeling.” As soon as he said that, I felt every song he had written and I knew that’s what he always reached for. Thanks to Lamont, I knew what to do. I just spoke to Lamont a week ago.
