My brother and sister didn’t think I could run a 5 minute mile without proper training. I believed I could. The results speak for themselves. Can you run a 5 minute mile? What’s your best mile time? At breakfast we were talking about solid ‘mile times’ and I confidently said “I can run a 5 minute mile no problem.” They laughed at me, but I thought how hard could it be?? I would just have to suffer through four laps of torture and red line the shit out of my heart for 5 minutes. That’s all. I was confident it was possible and maybe a little delusional, but the good news.. according to RUNNING LEVEL’s website an ‘elite athlete’ mile time for a 40 year old is 5:25. So from this standard, I wanted that elite athlete status! My brother used his road cycling strategy and set the pace for me. He sacrificed himself blocking the wind, allowing me to drift behind him until the last lap andddd it still wasn’t enough 😂 #humbled TRUTH: I KNOW AND FULLY BELIEVE IF I TRAIN FOR ONE WEEK AT A TRACK, I CAN BREAK THE 5 MINUTE MILE TIME. This will now be a yearly ritual when I visit GA with the FAM.
