Cherry blossom tea ceremony by Tomoko Imade Dyen @turningoffjapanese x @owiugoods. This was hands down one of the most special experiences I’ve had lately. Tomoko, who is an experienced Culinary Curator from Japan, just got back from Kagoshima (which is where my family is from) to curate and bring back some of the most special teas of the many seasons of Japan.
Tea ceremonies are more than just the act of drinking tea, but an invitation to commune and appreciate ritual and stillness. We learned so much about different teas and their origins, discovered my new favorite tea Chirancha, tried fermented Awabancha with sweet natto and Genmaicha from the shop in Kyoto where it was originally created. Each tea is paired with a handmade wagashi by @adzuki_life all served on @amandagnwn OWIU pottery. The whole ceremony was exceptional and brought us right back to Japan. Sign up for one of her future events (she has a waiting list!) We are bringing this experience to @asianamericangirlclub very soon so stay tuned. Trust me you will not want to miss this when it happens.
Our menu:
Sparkling Fukamushi-cha (Shizuoka)
Spring Crudités
Chirancha (Kagoshima)
Asparagus spring roll
Fermented tea tasting (Awabancha-Tokushima, Oolong-Kagoshima; Kohcha- Kyoto)
Savory and sweet Natto
Genmaicha (Kyoto)
Seasonal oshokuji
Matcha (Kyoto)
Sakuramochi and Sakura Mochi and Sakura Kiribashi by KASHI AMAIRO
