TEMPLES OF LORD SHIVA IN THE VRINDAVAN FOREST AT GOVARDHAN ECO VILLAGE
Vajranabh, the grandson of Lord Krishna, installed 5 Principle Mahadevs, forms of Lord Shiva, in 5 different areas of Vrindavan to preside over.
1. Gopeshwar Mahadev in Vrindavan
2. Kameshwara Mahadev in Kamyavan
3. Bhuteswar Mahadev in Mathura
4. Nandeshwar Mahadev in Nandgaon
5. Chakaleswar Mahadev at Govardhan
Being the kshetra pal of the Dham, it is only by his mercy that one can enter the Dham. At Govardhan Eco Village, we have installed the places of Gopeshwar Mahadev, Bhuteshwar Mahadev, Nandeshwar Mahadev and Chakleshwar Mahadev.
The story of Gopeshwar Mahadev is that Lord Shiva wanted to renounce everything to take on the mood of a gopi. Through his supreme wisdom, yogic vision, and ultimate knowledge, he understood that there is no higher spiritual experience of love than that of the gopis. He was told, “If you want to enter the Rasalila, you must take the female form of a gopi.” He then took his bath in Mansarovar, which was filled with the tears of Srimati Radharani’s love. When Lord Shiva took his bath, he came out with the bhava and the form of a gopi. He was given the service of being the guardian of the Rasalila in the form of Gopeshwar Mahadev.
Sanatana Goswami was living near the Chakleshwar Mahadeva area in Govardhan. He decided to leave for a more suitable place to perform his devotional service, as many mosquitoes would disturb his service. Lord Shiva could not bear the thought of separation from Sanatana Goswami, so he appeared in the form of a brahmana and asked Sanatana to just wait for a day, and if the mosquitoes would still trouble him the next day, he could leave. Sanatana agreed, and Lord Siva called for the demigod in charge of the mosquitoes and gave him an order: “Don’t allow any of your insects to disturb Sanatana Goswami.” From that day on, no mosquitoes bothered Sanatana Goswami.
