It was an honor to attend the Gala for the Entertainment Community Fund last night. Their mission is to foster stability and resiliency, and provide a safety net for entertainment professionals throughout their lifespan. The ECF envisions of world in which individuals contributing to our countries cultural vibrancy, are supported, valued, and economically secure. they help address the specific needs of entertainment professionals, with a unique understanding of the challenges involved with a life in the arts, and with the knowledge of what it takes to thrive in an often unpredictable industry. They offer workshops, support groups, online resources, and emergency financial assistance. For more information please visit EntertainmentCommunity.org. Congratulations to the award recipients, Sonia, Freidman, Seth, McFarland and Warner Brothers. And a special shout out to Annette Bening who is the new chairwoman of the board. Brava. If you’re anything like me, you remember exactly where you were the first time you saw Christopher Durang’s play, “Sister Mary Ignatius Explains It All For You and The Actor’s Nightmare. Chris possessed a lethal and barbed imagination, often leaving it impossible to tell where the laughter ends and the pain begins. In 1982, I used one of Chris’ monologues from his play, ‘Dentity Crisis to get into the MFA Graduate Acting Program at NYU. Who knows where my path would’ve led if I didn’t have that incredible piece to sink my teeth into. Later, i had a chance to meet him and became friends with him and his partner John. Chris saw an early workshop of my one woman show and gave me some valuable insights to help shape it. I admired him so much. He was one of my favorite writers. And he was a beautiful and gentle man. Thank you for holding up a mirror to society and making us laugh and cry simultaneously. You are the best of our generation. Gone too soon.💔

This Play Is On Fire. 🔥 So much talent bursting at the seams. Where do I begin? Opening night was electric. The audience was on their feet with their hands in the air singing at the top of their lungs. There’s about a dozen Tony Awards ready to be won. @MaleahJoiMoon @shobean @BrandonVDixon @KeciaLewis #ChrisLee @AliciaKeys #michaelgreif @camilleABrown. Just mind blowing talent. Hell’s Kitchen, is an autobiographical musical about Alicia Keys and her early years living in Manhattan Plaza. Struggling with an absentee father, a warrior mother and a wise and soulful piano teacher who saw Alicia’s artistry when no one else was looking. This is a love letter to powerful women everywhere. To mothers, to teachers, and to young girls whose dreams can’t be extinguished. Bravo Heidi Griffiths for assembling this outstanding cast.

Alex Edelman’s HBO comedy special premieres tomorrow night, April 6th on HBO Max. If you don’t already have a subscription, it’s worth getting a free trial just to watch it. After performing his one-man show for the past 5 years on Broadway and in theaters around the world, you will now have a chance to hear his infamous story about attending a neo-Nazi mixer in Queens, New York, and briefly falling in love with a white nationalist named Chelsea. Alex is a gifted storyteller, who disarmingly balances, satire, straight comedy, and old-fashioned pathos. Truly great comedy does that. Trust me, It is laugh out-loud, funny, but it is also sharp, fearless, and an often unpleasant reflection of the world we live in. I loved it when I saw it Off-Broadway and I fell in love with him all over again when I saw his HBO special.
