Many of these products are marketed as protein bars or have eye catching labels that say they contain a certain amount of protein BUT the ingredients either aren’t healthy or the calories and macros aren’t optimal.

There are some food additives I have a little bit of here and there, this is NOT one of them. Carrageenan has been shown in multiple studies to have numerous adverse effects on the gastrointestinal tract (IBS and many others), cause glucose intolerance, and there is a potential link to colon cancer.
–
While many MD’s may recommend the Fairlife shakes, they are most likely doing so based on the calories, the macros, and the taste – which many people love…which in part is due to the texture of carrageenan. In my opinion, there are much healthier options with the same nutritional value.
–
These are a hard pass for me.
–

By your request I’ve found some quick grab and go’s at Walmart that you can throw together for a lunch!

Healthy foods and snacks are easier to find than we usually think. We just have to move away from the cheeseburgers and sandwiches that are pre-packaged, like I showed you here.
–
Look for a healthy protein source (meats, eggs, protein bar/shake/powder),
–
Then look for a complex carbohydrate, if you’re doing carbs…
–
OR look for a healthy fat source, if you’re not including carbs.

Many times we will see a product labeled as a protein bar. However, the total amount of protein, more often than not, really doesn’t qualify it to be a “protein bar“.
–
Either that or it has protein and the combined total amount of carbohydrates and fats is very high. So in the end you’re getting large amounts of protein, carbs, and fats altogether, which really does nothing for your overall health and wellness.
–

The kids VS the adult version will blow your mind 🤯

The fact that refined sugars are added to the protein shake marketed to kids doesn’t sit well with me – especially since the “adult” version of their shakes don’t have added sugars and instead use natural sweeteners.
–
The fewer refined sugars in a child’s diet, the healthier they will be, overall.

Part 1: Come with me to Costco for healthy food!

I’m currently back on carbohydrates due to the high intensity of my wrestling training – BUT – I found several items for anyone that is looking for a low-carb option.
–
Remember high carbs and fats together will raise LDL cholesterol (bad cholesterol). The combo also tends to not leave a lot of room for enough protein and we blow right past our calorie limit for the day due to hunger cravings (protein helps reduce hunger cravings).
–
If you are wanting to do carbs in your nutrition, then drop the fats as low as possible,
–
If you’re wanting to drop the carbs, then increase your fat sources and keep your protein moderate to slightly higher, any tons of veggies either way.

How to eat for your activity level.

This was only a 12 min morning cardio session with a 3 min warmup too.

Most days I’m well over 4,000 calories burned and eating to maintain muscle mass and also for performance.

I’m eating higher protein, low fats, and complex carbs to fuel my high intensity workouts and long training sessions (3 hours of practice).

Hours of high intensity training and putting in the reps is part of this game. We’re an hour into our man in the middle drill here and we will still run matches after.

When you’re tired, when your muscles are on fire, and when you’re completely exhausted – THAT is when you have to be at your best. Keeping whoever I’m working with safe (male or female), is priority #1.

To be able to function athletically at this exhaustion level and think about your character, keeping everyone safe, and being able to simultaneously lead the match is a skill that very few can master.

As far as macros go, these are decent and would pair well with a nutrition plan that is utilizing carbs and lower fats.

The sucralose, which is the generic name for Splenda, is always a concern. It’s a chemical artificial sweetener that is 1000 times sweeter than sugar.
–
However, life is about balance, and even I have a few products that have sucralose in them. I just tried to limit my total consumption of these products.

Do I recommend protein coffee? It’s not that I recommend it, but it’s just another way to give you variety with your protein intake.

This has about the equivalent caffeine as a few expresso shots.
–
If you pair this with some eggs in the morning, you’d have plenty of protein for breakfast.
–
It does have sucralose in it, which is a chemical artificial sweetener BUT I’ll let you make the choice on if you want that in your food or not.
–
I do get some sucralose in my foods from time to time but I try to limit it.
–

Not bad but we’re missing magnesium.

We typically get more than enough sodium in our diets than we need. It’s also very rare that we are deficient in sodium even when exercising
–
What we tend to be deficient in is potassium and magnesium, more than anything.
–
I take magnesium taurate, but glycinate will work just as well. Also, I take potassium citrate, 2 to 3 times a day to ensure that my electrolytes are fully replenished.
–
As long as I’m taking those two supplements, I haven’t found a need for any type of these electrolyte packets. However, everybody’s body is different and you may find that this helps.
