Happy Earth Day! Excuse the stupidly excited face in the second photo but not so long ago I was blessed enough to become the custodian of a piece of land in the west of Ireland. I can’t tell you what an honor and blessing it is to hold this responsibility. I see it as that because, as the old saying goes, we do not acquire or inherit land from our ancestors but borrow it from our children. This drawing of a tree on the land was my first sketch there and my first detailed appreciation of just one small part of a much bigger picture. May we all see that we are part of this bigger picture and do what we can to protect, nurture and treasure the natural world at every opportunity. I have so much to learn and a long way to go in improving the impact I have on the environment. Sometimes the environmental catastrophe we are facing can depress the f**k out of me but when my attention is placed on the small parts of the bigger picture and the small changes I can make, there is a sense of awe and optimism that there is a different future… if only we can imagine it first. Here are some inspirational people and organisations that are working hard to find harmony with the natural world and redress the anthropocentric conceit that has brought us to this point.
