It was exactly 10 years ago, in December of 2013, that I took Gus to his first ever theater production. He was only three, but I’d heard good things about the @rbkcenter in our community and so I hoped that my toddler would behave through the show. Gus did better than just behave….he fell in love with the stage.
Since then, we’ve hosted his preschool birthday party and seen countless shows at @rbkcenter . When they did Peter Pan years back, Gus watched the show in full Captain Hook costume. When they did Oliver, we sat in the front row and shuddered at scary Bill Sykes. We loved Clue, and just recently enjoyed Peter and the Starcatcher on a school field trip.
Last year was Gus’s first time ON stage. He played Jacob Marley in A Christmas Carol and @jeffreydeanmorgan and I couldn’t believe how focused and committed our boy was. He never asked us to run lines. He did all the work himself. And he shined on that stage.
This year? Our boy is Scrooge. He found humor in all of Scrooge’s complaining. He made us cry when he teared up seeing the mistakes of his past. I want to remember this day forever. Cause he’s so happy.
Community gems like @rbkcenter don’t come cheap, and they are worth every penny to protect! They are safe spaces where kids and grownups alike can grow and connect and celebrate each other. I’m so grateful for this theater in my community. @jeffreydeanmorgan and I have donated and hope you will consider doing the same. Give the gift of Theatre this holiday season! I think we take for granted now that women can be ALL the things. There was a time not so long ago when you were a career gal or a mother. And very little inbetween. But @janefonda always stood out as a hero to me because she refused to any ONE thing. She was a mother AND had a great career. She was an actress AND an advocate. She was serious AND had great comedic timing. She was hot AND brilliant.
Jane is an “AND” woman. She paved the way for women to bend and break the rules entirely, and she has spent her life fighting tirelessly for equity and empathy.
For her birthday, let’s all go follow @janefondaclimatepac and show this icon that we love her and we are grateful for the decades of work she has put in, protecting so many of us.

Oh my fucking God! I want to live inside of this book! I want to curl up inside of this village, and make friends with the Briars and wear cloaks and go to the parties in the square with a dagger strapped to my calf.
My magical friend @angelaslatter has done it again, and each time she delves into the mythology of the Sourdough world, I feel like I’m getting to visit old friends. Angela understands the horror of being a woman and the grit and humor that it takes to survive. I love her perfectly messy and mystical characters, the timelessness of her environments.
I feel so spoiled that I’ve gotten to read this book early and I wish I could read it for the first time again! This is my cozy winter hideout. Sending you so much love Angela!

On this 18th day of December, I’m a big enough girl to admit that I am TIRED. I want to be the hardest working and the most attentive mother/wife/coworker/community member….but the last few months have kicked my ass. So when a ray of sunshine arrives on my doorstep?? This very sleepy lady is DEEPLY grateful!
If you have read either of my books, you know that @joshandbrent are heroes of mine. They have championed our farm and our candy store and showered me with so much kindness over the years. It would be incredibly difficult to repay all that sweetness. This year, they sent an advent calendar full of their delicious and gorgeous goat milk products! Years ago, I was fortunate enough to connect with Rob Hunter, our local @benjaminmoore rep through @williamslumber here in Rhinebeck. He helped us a great deal with our renovations at @astorservices and the color transformation there changed lives.
So in this season of life, as my friends and I try to help out our public schools, Rob and @benjaminmoore came in to save the day again!
Our teachers do so much to support the kids in our district, and as the middle school PTSO (Parent Teacher Student Organization) rep, we wanted to repay the kindness by renovating their VERY tired workroom. If teachers are staying late to tutor our kids, or sponsor clubs, or coach sports, they need a place to decompress or meet with each other or let their kids hangout. Here’s a little video documenting the transformation, replacing the old blue and beige with our school colors of purple and gold. Huge thanks to the custodial staff and our tireless parent volunteers! Especially @lettuceb0y who redid every wall in the room and muscled through concrete to hang the shelves I insisted on! Haha. You’re a machine, Brian!
