My calling to ministry is deeply rooted in the Civil Rights Movement. My work has been about social justice and reclaiming and reframing Christianity. By all accounts, #CowboyCarter is a body of music that reclaims and reframes music and American history. Throughout the album Beyoncé gives the world a new, inclusive and expansive offering of music- lifting up our blackbirds and new black rising starts while truly honoring ALL of music history (Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson, Stevie Wonder, Linda Martell). May we enjoy this music. And it cause our hearts to open more. Art matters. History matters. This album imagines a way forward into something bold and NEW while lifting up the past and future. #CowboyCarter #Beyonce #FierceLove #artheals #LovePeriod #LittleRockNine #LindaMartell #TannerAdell #BrittneySpencer #TieraKennedy #ReynaRoberts #PaulMccartney ❤️✊🏾 R/p @poststyle: When Melba Pattillo Beals heard Beyoncé sing a line from the Beatles’ “Blackbird” on her new album last week, she was transported back to a morning in September 1957, when she and eight other Black students arrived at an all-White Arkansas school. Beals, a member of the group known as the Little Rock Nine who integrated Central High School, had loved the 1968 Beatles hit from the first time she heard it — long before she learned in 2016 that her story had inspired it. The 82-year-old San Francisco resident said hearing Beyoncé’s rendition brought new meaning to the lyrics. As Beals streamed the song on Beyoncé’s new album, “Cowboy Carter,” she felt empowered knowing that nearly 67 years ago, she helped desegregate schools. “This song awakens so much,” Beals said.

Easter is upon us and there is MUCH to think about. This Holy Week, Donald Trump made headlines selling $60 Bibles to fund his mountain of legal fees—Christian Nationalism selling off Christianity’s clothes while the faith they’re killing still hangs upon the cross. The twice-impeached, white supremacy spouting, serial raping, grifter-in-chief is a fitting stand-in for the Roman soldiers in our Good Friday story. His entire life embodies the savagery of the American imperial project. In the same way that the soldiers’ cruelty exposes the violence beneath the Pax Romana’s glittery sheen, he is Christian Nationalism stripped of all the ways it tries to make itself respectable. Any pretense of following Christ is gone, leaving just the naked will to dominate. Let’s be very clear: Christian Nationalism is actively crucifying the one they claim is risen. Every time they invoke Jesus’ name to persecute God’s people, they drive another nail into his body. But we know how the story ends… 🙏🏾🙌🏾 Join us Middle Church Tomorrow, Easter Sunday: – 7AM EDT Sunrise Worship on YouTube – 9:30 AM EDT In Person Worship Only at East End Temple – 11:45 AM EDT Hybrid In Person and Online Worship – 3:00 PM EDT Online Worship *****AND TOMORROW EVENING, EASTER SUNDAY**** I’ll be on The Sunday Show with Jonathan Capehart to talk about what the promise of new life means amid so many tombs. Reflecting on the life of Jesus—a Palestinian Jew—slain by the empire, we’re reminded of countless individuals whose lives have been cut short by oppressive laws and the insidious grip of power and hate. Trans rights face unprecedented assaults in our nation’s corridors of power. Policies and bills wielded by those in authority aim to obliterate our siblings’ narratives, stripping them of rights, healthcare, and bodily autonomy. In mourning Jesus, we mourn not only him but for ALL who are holy, sacred, and deeply cherished. While extensive records recount Jesus’ journey, the same comprehensive documentation doesn’t exist for these women. Out of 45 reports thus far unearthed (source: tdor.translivesmatter.info/reports), with an additional 7 acknowledged by the Human Rights Campaign, today we honor these 7 women. 7 women—sisters, mothers, daughters, lovers, friends, and pioneers—cherished by their kin and communities. Today, we lift you in remembrance. We breathe life into your names and stories. We affirm your significance, vowing never to forget. Join us in a moment of silence. Speak their names and those before them. Share their faces. As long as the trans community is under attack, we will stand up and fight back. Check out our story to see how you can participate with us today.

Holy Week 2024, y’all. Which parade are we in? If you missed today’s @middlechurch worship featuring Jesus Christ Superstar, you can catch it online or watch our 3:00pm EDT digital service. These are hard times, and as I said in worship, though there is a cup full of poison, there is also a fountain full of of love. Let us be the love. Asé. #HolyWeek #PalmSunday #JesusChristSuperstar #LovePeriod #GodIsLove #ThereIsHope
America, let’s not fall for the circus. How can we crucify Trans people for being different when Jesus himself was crucified for being different? Trans Day of Visibility falls on the same day every year, March 31st. Trump demanding that Biden apologize for it falling on Easter when Easter is the day that changes year to year is beyond ridiculous. Our Trans siblings are holy children of God. What if we considered it a miracle that these two days overlapped this year? Easter, a day of renewal and hope, and Trans Day of Visibility- a day when we intentionally uplift the goodness of our Trans siblings. Easter 2024 may be behind us on the calendar, but the message lives beyond the holy day: Let’s double down on love, not hate. Watch this clip from my appearance on @capehartj on @msnbc on Sunday. It’s always a joy to be able to chat with Jonathan and friends. #Easter #TransDayofVisibility #GodIsLove #TransIsBeautiful #FierceLove #RevDrJacquiLewis #JonathanCapehart #MSNBC #LovePeriod #StopHate #TransLivesMatter
Today is April 7th. We are in our 6th month of genocidal war crimes in Gaza. An estimated 33,000 Palestinians killed. There is no justifying the obliteration of entire people. Call Biden at 202-456-1111 from 11 AM-3PM Tuesday-Thursday and leave a message on White House Comment Line. Demand a Ceasefire. Every message must be heard. Use your voice. Let’s pray with ACTION. Enough is enough. #Ceasefire #FierceLove #LovePeriod #Releasehostages #ProgressiveChristianity #EndWar #StopHate
The church aimed to diminish women’s power, intelligence, and reputation, while also portraying God as a white man to gain our belief. But holy theology reveals that women were the last at the cross and the first to see Jesus, carrying wisdom straight from Christ and promoting a story of FIERCE LOVE. Watch @revjacquilewis full sermon from this Easter morning, “Nevertheless She Preached,” and discover how you can #BeLikeMary.💕 Happy Trans Day of Visibility Fam 🏳️⚧️
We see what is happening. We will not be silent. We will not be complicit. Israel’s government is willing to kill aid workers to ENSURE that they can kill Palestinians. Where is the value for any human life? People of morals- let us be moved by our collective conscience to speak up.💔✊🏾 #GodIsLove #ProgressiveChristianity #FierceLove #LovePeriod

Jane Fonda: “To be a revolutionary you have to be a human being. You have to care about people who have no power.” 🔥❤️ ⬆️ that’s it right there, folx! I’m proud to have protested and marched alongside THE Jane Fonda. Throughout the decades, Jane has risked her career countless times to be an outspoken advocate for the disenfranchised and for the world. If you have not seen the documentary “Jane Fonda in Five Acts,” I highly recommend it. Jane is undoubtedly stunning and always has been– we know this. But more importantly, she has always been a revolutionary lover. #Jacqui’sWonderWomen #WomensHistoryMonth #JaneFonda #ClimateChange #Feminist #FierceLove #FireDrilFridays #Womyn #WonderWoman #MoreThanAPrettyFace #AntiWar #CivilRights #LovePeriod #Fierce Love #RevolutionaryLove
For all of those who feel broken, outcast, depleted, and depressed by the politics of hate and poison across our world, let this Holy Week be a reminder: Death and betrayal do not have the final say in our faith story. There is a love that will not let us go. The cup of poison is not the last sip. Stay strong. Fight for justice in all places and for all people. Love WILL have the final word. Keep your heads up and your hearts open, beloveds. Link in bio to my full homily. 🙏🏾❤️✊🏾 #HolyWeek #LovePeriod #RevDrJacquiLewis #ProgressiveChristianity #GodIsLove #LoveIsTheAnswer #HumanityFirst
Q: Do You Still Believe God is Good Or Real? Well. I certainly don’t believe in the God that I grew up with. As I’ve grown up in my faith I’ve learned that God is a Grown up God—bigger, more loving, and more inclusive than the judgy, petty, and punitive “god with a little g” that many churches like to beat us with. God is LOVE. Watch the video for my full answer to this beautifully simple but deep question in my latest “Fixed It: Broken Theology” video. But spoiler alert– yes— I believe that God is Good AND Real. And I need God and my faith more than ever in these hard times. Thanks again for all of your vulnerable questions. Keep sending them, and let’s keep healing together ❤️🙏🏾
