Jessica Parker Kennedy Instagram – This is a really good example of what I’m going to assume was a well intentioned human who did NOT know how to adopt responsibly. This human rescued Maddy but returned her back to the shelter because she snapped at their child. When you adopt a dog, you MUST give that dog time to decompress before introducing him/her to your family especially children. At the very least this means crating the dog and keeping him/her in a quiet room followed by many other vital steps. Any dog you bring into your home needs time to get used to their new environment! If you don’t do this, any dog can have a fear based reaction like snapping, especially a dog like Maddy who has been in the shelter for months, overbred and was recovering from her spay surgery. This is NOT the dog’s fault and does not reflect the temperament of that dog. Frustratingly and incorrectly, Maddy will likely now be written up in the shelter system as “aggressive” when she is not and “aggressive” dogs are EUTHANIZED! If your going to adopt, please do your research and learn the most responsible way to bring a new animal into your family.
