Home Actress Jurnee Smollett HD Photos and Wallpapers April 2024 Jurnee Smollett Instagram - There’s nothing more fulfilling than birthing something into the world. Playing this young man’s on-screen mom, Dolores, in We Grown Now was food for my soul. @blakecameronjames and @gian_knight4ever are two gifted young actors with the ability to break your heart on screen. I’m just blown away by their ability to be so honest and authentic. It’s a bit of full circle moment for me; for, art is cathartic. I loved playing Dolores. As a mom in real life to a little black boy, I can relate to the struggles of raising our boys in this world. Wanting to protect their black boy joy, their light, innocence, curiosity, imagination… wanting to preserve their essence, their strength…not wanting to break their spirit…or worse make them so obedient that you dim their natural leadership qualities. But also knowing you are raising black boy, a black body in America. It’s something that keeps me up at night. I know I sit at a place of privilege, one that so many moms like Dolores don’t. And yet, we see everyday, regardless of socioeconomic status, our men have targets on their backs. So what happens when you’re raising a dreamer? How does one protect their dreams and not be afraid to fly? What I love so much about our film is that it’s told through the eyes of two little black boys . It’s a coming of age story, about the friendship of these two little boys growing up in Cabrini Green. Thank you @minhal.pdf for asking me to be part of the producing team and the amazing cast. You are creating responsible and essential storytelling. Go see #WeGrownNow in theaters now in LA, Chicago and New York. Nationwide April 26th.
