Here she is. Bonded together by her tiny and magical hands, her dad, her and I awe struck by a love beyond words. The dogs have welcomed her to the family in such beautiful ways, and as I had expected. Chester has barely noticed, and when he is with her he’s very much ‘oh yeah, I already knew’. Cashew is cautious with change and so he is exercising his choices and getting to know her at a comfortable pace. And Harry has adopted the protective nature desiring to sit at her side as often as he can. Choice and boundaries are the two key factors for the dogs. Ensuring the routine is predictable and that there are consistencies where the dogs go and when. Within this there are choices the dogs are able to make that keep them feeling safe, respected and calm. They are ready and waiting to teach her many of life’s beautiful lessons.

Back on social media 2nd Jan ‘24. In the meantime, if you’re ever unsure what to do with your dog’s behaviour, change yours first. Pretend it is you who is the dog and ask yourself what would make you feel safe in that moment. New Year’s resolutions: 1. Don’t go to a fireworks event. Stay home for your dog on New Year’s Eve. It’s just a night like any other night. And, everyone knows it’s always a disappointment anyway. The company of our dogs however never disappoints 2. Use social media less! There are probably 2 or more hours we miss in the day scrolling aimlessly. Afterwards we feel anxious, and dissatisfied with our life. If we donated those two hours to our relationship with our dogs, we’d be calmer and much more satisfied. 3. Choose your dog. Be their voice. Be their hero. Work on being worthy of their unconditional love. Just because they give it, doesn’t mean we deserve it. Cashew (Catch you) in ‘24.

Christmas tree surviving well with a cat and ball addicted dog in the house. Here are some ways you can keep your decorations safe: 1. Give your cat equivalent enrichment. Remember cats are arboreal so they need places to climb, scratch up and explore. 2. Safe guard the area if need be with a pen or fencing 3. Teach your dog that ball time only happens outside. Inside time is calm time 4. Sometimes covering the base with al foil helps as some cats dislike the sound and feel of it 5. Smaller trees are less climby than large ones… 6. Keep the tree away from other furniture that makes it easy for cats to parkour 7. All things fun happen away from the tree. Play, eating, patting, resting etc 8. Don’t worry if things fall or break. Life is full of moments not possessions. Take a picture of your cat and make the most of it. You’ll look back one day with fond memories, I promise.
