We had a family gathering tonight and we ALL ended up sitting around drinking wine and watching multiple episodes of @officialblueytv. If you haven’t seen it, don’t wait until you have kids or grandkids. Just let the little one inside your soul enjoy some amazing, funny, and sweet storytelling. 🥹🥹🥹💙
Your child’s fruit is not your responsibility. As this episode of the mother/child dynamic comes to a wrap, I want to share one final thing my mother did really well… She met us as peers once we became adults. She intentionally said “hey, I’m not going to tell you what to do now, you’re grown, make your own decisions and live your life and I’ll be here cheering you along the way.” It’s scary to let your baby bird fly away from the nest! But it’s absolutely necessary. And known you’ve done all you can do – and you’ll be a safe landing pad whenever they need to return home. Now, just watch in awe of what their life becomes ✨
Growing up my Mom made a deal with us: 🤝🏻”If you come and confess something to me, there won’t be retribution” Because we are all going to make mistakes. She valued us feeling safe enough to admit them to her, then working through a solution together over an absolute punishment. Growth happens in grace, not judgement.
It’s never too late to have a healthy relationship with your child. The root word of that phrase is “health” and often focusing on that aspects of ourselves can feel like a luxury amidst the demands of motherhood. So often we get older than have regrets in our parenting decisions… But it’s never too far gone to repair. Oftentimes it takes re-breaking the wound, but the repair can be even stronger 🤎
✌🏻New Episode Drop – Part 2 with my Mom! In this mini ep we explore high school years through adulthood and what it looks like to evolve together. Hint: It requires more & more autonomy until ultimately you aren’t “parenting” your adult child whatsoever. Which may also demand you re-get to know each other as adults. Recently my mom & I went to lunch and pretended it was our first time meeting / a mutual friend set us up. It was so fun getting to hear about her life as a new “peer” as opposed to assuming I knew all about her 🙃
Game Club Christmas party last night and my honeyman made us these Holiday Mojitos complete with homemade rosemary simple syrup. Deeeelish! 🎄🎅🥰
Would you apologize to your adult children? Oftentimes we do look back and wish we had done things differently… But do you realize the power you wield in taking that regret and naming it to your adult child? “No, that was wrong when I did that” or “That was out of my own ignorance but I see it impacted you” The voices of parents growing of highly inform a child’s concept of God, so going back to re-break and heal wounds can have trickle affects with all of their intimate relationships – for the better.
“Accidents happen” That was my inner voice when my bf accidentally broke something of mine. Where his inner voice started being hyper critical, judgmental, and shame inducing to himself. Oftentimes the voices of parents become our inner monologue and we replay what they would say when something comes up. What does your inner voice say when you make a mistake? And, if it’s negative, how would it feel to replace it with “accidents happen” 🤷🏻♀️?
