LA April 2nd- The Philosophical Research Society will holding the first U.S. Screening of Lydia Lunch & Jasmine Hirsts film: ARTISTS: DEPRESSION, ANXIETY AND RAGE along with a Q&A with Lydia Lunch and Michelle Forbes. Tickets in Tour Dates icon on main page. “Artists – Depression, Anxiety, and Rage is a timely expression of faith that through art, community, and an open dialogue about our darkest experiences, not only can we heal, but our loved ones may come to a better understanding of the struggles so many of us have endured. Jasmine Hirst and I have spent the past two years interviewing musicians, artists, and writers about their lifelong struggles with mental health. The roots of depression run deep. We explore the devastation caused by childhood trauma, neglect, poverty, malnutrition, genetics, chemical imbalance, and existential angst. With this documentary, we strive to present hope to anyone who suffers from depression, anxiety, or rage in the knowledge that they are not alone. There are a variety of methods to be utilized to cope once the darkness does descend. Art is the salve to the universal wound. Artists split themselves open. They are both offering up and seeking salvation with the revelations they share. I feel I was summoned as oracle, giving voice to encourage others to rage against the soul murder of the individual due to the traumas that remain and from which they still suffer. So many of us possess a nagging resistance that prevents us from acknowledging the love and acceptance that is offered up to us now because it was denied to us as children. I strive both as an artist and an individual to bring relief to other people by exposing personal wounds in the hope that they will not feel so alone. Because they are not alone.” – Lydia Lunch #lydialunch #jasminehirst

Lydian Spin podcast episode 246- Artist Dan Levenson https://lydianspin.libsyn.com/artist-dan-levenson Dan Levenson is a visual artist based in Los Angeles who engages in installation, performance, video, painting, and sculpture. His artistic endeavors revolve around the concept of an imagined institution, the State Art Academy, Zürich (SKZ). Dan’s paintings adhere to the formalist teachings of this fictitious academy, employing metrically sized canvases divided geometrically to produce rational and reproducible abstract compositions. Through performance, installation, and video, he further develops the narrative of this fictional institution. Each painting bears a unique title, symbolizing a student from the State Art Academy, Zürich, with no repetition of names. In 2004, Dan used a computer script to generate hundreds of millions of distinct names by combining surnames from the Zürich phone book with common Swiss first names. From this extensive list, 135,000 names were randomly selected and published in a book, with the titles of his paintings drawn from the same pool in random order.
