Margarita Stoykova Instagram – I remember quite vividly the day I learned about the Shooting Star award. With the director of the film “Dyad,” Yana Titova, we were at our so-called film rehearsal. To prepare for my role with Yana, we watched many inspiring films. On that day, she chose one of her favorite films, “Pure” (dir. Lisa Langseth 2010).
I was captivated by the movie and the performance of the main character, who I had actually seen on the big screen in several films at the time – Alicia Vikander. Yana shared with me that this was her breakthrough film, and through it, she was selected to be one of the Shooting Stars of 2011.
I didn’t exactly know what Shooting Star was and Yana gave me the iciest stare and told me that I must know what Shooting Star was by the next rehearsal.
Of course, I delved so deep that the next day when Yana asked, “Did you understand?” I replied, “I, too, will become a Shooting Star!” She smiled and asked me to focus on filming first and then think about such things. But somehow, that thought, that dream, lingered in me all the time. I watched almost all the ceremonies from the past 26 years of the award.
I don’t think I can be happier than I am now because a year later, I stand here with pride, saying that I am one of the ten Shooting Stars of 2024! I can’t be more grateful to the entire team behind all of this. Thanks to the National Film Center and to Petar Todorov for the support.
To Yana Titova and Aleksandar Aleksiev, thank you for what you’ve done for me. Indescribable is what I feel right now. I am happy…
