✨ Rather than resolutions, every year I like to think of a word or phrase that I can use to guide me through all my decisions & intentions. 2023 had two: “Red Carpet Ready” which had more to do with developing healthy habits, building consistency, and cultivating confidence than walking a carpet — & “Authority” which was about trusting my inner voice & no longer outsourcing my power ✨
I’m starting to think about my word or “theme” for next year & wanted to invite you to do the same. Is there a word or phrase that you could use to support you and influence all of your actions in the new year? Or if you resonate with the idea of resolutions, what are some of them? I find that when we share our dreams/intentions/goals/desires with others we instantly become more accountable to ourselves ✨

This date used to hold so much significance for me. In my youth, I longed for someone to demonstrate love in the elaborate and performative ways I’d seen in tv and films. In my 30’s, I was married to a man that I was convinced would someday figure out how to love me in the quiet and subtle ways I actually craved. And 2 years ago on this day, while “celebrating” my 10 year wedding anniversary….I felt a quiet whisper to let it ALL go. And that’s what I did. I finally realized that there was no void in me unless I was avoiding me. And the love I sought was only to be found in the mirror and not in someone else’s eyes. Today, I can genuinely celebrate all the beautiful and brave souls who let themselves be in and receive romantic love. I honor the broken hearted, cynical and hopeless. And I no longer see being single as lacking love, but rather being given the gift of time. Time to discover the nuances of my own heart before sharing it with someone else.

I haven’t taken a formal ice skating lesson in almost 2 months 🥺 With my industry being on strike most of the year & ⛸️ being SUCH an expensive passion, it was starting to feel irresponsible to pay for lessons without a clear financial plan — no matter how much I LOVE it.
I was sad at first because I felt like I wasn’t learning anything new on my own, and I feared getting stagnant. However, in the last couple of weeks my attitude has completely shifted. Skating is as much about JOY and community as it is about learning new tricks!
I’m SO thankful for friends like @what_are_yall_waiting_for who challenge me by inviting me to come PLAY!!
Also, there’s something to be said for slowing down, not always being sooooo goal oriented and giving myself grace. While the list of things I want to be able to do continues to grow, so does my tenacity, persistence, patience, and determination — cuz I’m pretty sure l want to compete someday ⛸️😍🙌🏾✨💥

In 2010, I was appointed the first ever United Nations Youth Champion for the International Year of Youth. With this title, I initiated and self funded a global tour where I traveled to 24 countries in 6 months to witness firsthand what young people experienced and shine a light on the issues impacting them most. I met with world leaders, visited refugee camps, spent time with girls who were rescued from trafficking, spoke at international schools, volunteered with organizations and advocated on behalf of causes they cared most about.
These years transformed my life in more ways than I can ever explain & no matter what roles I land in my career I will always hold my time as Youth Champion in the highest regard.
