Strong reaction today to the Prime Minister’s Ramadan message. @albomp issued a statement for ‘peace and happiness during a time for prayer, reflection and charity.’ But it’s been labelled hypocritical by Greens Muslim Senator @mehreenfaruqi In a statement today she says ‘the wishes of Labor leaders sound completely hollow, as they refuse to take action on Israel’s massacre of more than 30-thousand Palestinians’. She also repeats the call for Australia to restore funding to @unrwa . The @ahmadiyya_muslim_community says while they welcome the P-M’s message of unity, this is a time of increasing polarisation, calling for efforts to bring communities together. The UN’s @worldfoodprogramme says Muslims everywhere are observing what’s been a harsh daily reality for Palestinians in Gaza for the last 5 months with almost everyone eating one meal a day.
Former CEO of World Vision, Rev Tim Costello says Israel needs to be held accountable for the air strikes that killed Zomi Frankcom and her 6 World Central Kitchen colleagues.
As the world’s attention turns to the supply of weapons to Israel, I spoke with @antloewenstein
Foreign Minister @senatorpennywong announcing Australia is reinstating funding for UNRWA.
Excited about this @alnf_ collaboration with @bondiactive 10% of sales of the Riptide range will be donated to ALNF’s multi-award-winning Living First Language Platform. Preserving language is vital to health, wellbeing, education and the future of Indigenous peoples. Btw – it’s made from recycled fishing nets and plastic bottles and makes a breeze of everyday chores 😜 #literacyisfreedom #proudambassador
Foreign Minister @senatorpennywong has announced the restoration of funding to the UN aid agency in Gaza, UNWRA. Minutes before her announcement I spoke with Sarah Dale from @racsaustralia about another issue facing Palestinians fleeing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, the cancellation of their visas by the Australian Government.
Loved chatting with @zendaya while moderating the world’s first media conference for @challengersmovie the film she produced and starred in. As well as her co-stars Josh O’Connor and Mike Faist. It was so special my @ikuntjiartists @mrataylor.official suit made its debut. Even the fashion icon herself complimented the threads. #challengersmovie #zendaya
James Elliot-Watson wants politicians to “do their f….g job” and change religious freedom laws to protect LGBTQ teachers and students. James was discriminated against at his religious school because he’s gay. He was suspended, his mental health crashed. James then hid his sexuality and came out again at 26. @equalityaustralia describes this type of discrimination as endemic. CEO Anna Brown told me of 20 people who’ve come forward with their stories this week alone.
Mpartnwe/Alice Springs had its first night of a snap two week youth curfew. Children under 18 are forced off the streets from 6pm to 6am. Mayor, Matt Paterson welcomes it as a circuit breaker but some experts say curfews don’t work.
Don’t wanna rush it. @chilloutfestival_daylesford 👗 @camillawithlove
Avi Dabush is an Israeli Rabbi-in-training who survived the October 7 attacks. He is in Australia calling for peace. I spoke to him just as news broke that Australian aid worker Zomi Frankcom was killed in an Israeli air strike in Gaza while helping deliver food.
@aliwong is touring Australia for the first time 🤩 That deserves a good lie down.

What did you do with your extra hour?
The team at Media Diversity Australia had a blast co-presenting the International Women’s Day Event and panel yesterday afternoon alongside AreMedia! The room was filled with conversations about the dire need for diversity within media industry and the impact of the lack of such diversity. Between the incredible keynote speaker @narelda_jacobs, the panel that featured some notable figures within the AreMedia network and the conversations that played out in the aftermath, the heartbreaking and inspiring stories we heard from women in the industry assured us of just how necessary our mission is. The main takeaway from the event was highlighting that no woman is free until ALL women are free. No one is perfect, but we all need to understand the role we play in our broader society and bring a positive attitude towards learning and unlearning to ensure a more equitable media landscape. May we continue the work of the many many strong and fearful women who came before us.
