Nazanin Boniadi Instagram – A much needed victory for the people of Iran! Today the UN Human Rights Council voted to approve the extension of the mandate of the Fact-finding mission and the mandate of the Special Rapporteur for the situation of human rights in Iran. A better result than expected and a testament to the incredible collective advocacy of several NGOs, activists and survivors of Islamic Republic atrocities (my personal heroes!), who showed up to give testimony and take meetings with delegates of member states. Special thanks to @amnestyiran, @iranrights, @bahreiniraha, and Roya Boroumand, whom I advocated alongside in Geneva on March 18, 2024, as well as @amtsbergluise for her leadership in turning out this vote. Given that impunity rules supreme under the Islamic Republic this outcome was a crucial step towards establishing international accountability mechanisms for crimes against the Iranian people by the IR authorities. The work continues!
