It’s a shame that when elected officials take the very rare opportunity to mention different marginalized communities, the message just gets lost. Trans day of visibility is not new, and was certainly not invented by any politician. The acknowledgment of trans day of visibility and trans day of remembrance comes from our community because of the need to protect ourselves against those who are constantly attacking us. Please bots, it is none of your business what we do on this Sunday or any other. For people who need to have a religious experience on a day like today, our existence does not stop that, and regardless of what God you may pray to or what religious holiday you may be experiencing today, transgender people are and always have been and always will be sharing the Earth with you, we are also children of God and worthy of the same respect, opportunities and space that most of your loud behinds are taken up in this moment. You have a chance to educate yourselves about the history of trans day of visibility. And if you do not want your religious holidays, birthdays, cotillions, graduations or any thing you celebrate to be connected to the trans community, take note, March 31st from here on out is transgender day of visibility. Mark your calendar because we will be back next year.
