Yael Stone Instagram – I am a secular Australian Jew and I have signed this open letter. The land in the Middle East has number of touchstones for my family, my name is drawn from those connections. But I have never set foot there, I never felt I had the capacity to hold so many conflicting notions and visit with a clear heart. This war is vast and deep, historically ancient, complex and wrought with pain – all beyond the scope of my comprehension. But I do know this, the current violence is taking us further and further from peace. And peace must surely be our purpose.##### IMPORTANT ADDITION = For those of you posting flags in connection to my post, respectfully, I ask you not to. I do not stand for ‘a side’ or behind any flag that is well beyond my comprehension let alone my identity. That is tribalism at work – that seeks to divide, a world where you have to choose a side (and continue the battle footing). With this post I support peace – which practically is a long and delicate process – that will not involve little me or most of us in social media land. My post is a simple statement that first step towards peace seems to be the cessation of violence. This includes a release of hostages which is stated clearly in the letter.
