I came here as a little innocent 21 year old and this place helped me find myself. It gave me things that I never dreamed possible. It showed me things I never imagined I would see. The sights, sounds, smells and textures are exactly how I remembered it. Most importantly I have been able to see old friends I haven’t seen in ages. Hong Kong will always have a special place in my heart. Although this is a short trip, I can’t wait to come back and start making movies again!

Daniel Wu Instagram - Cancer is a scary thing. In the past few years I have had several family and friends suddenly discover they had late stage cancer with no previous symptoms. So when I came across this White Rabbit ice cream while I was filming in China I had to try it. My lactose intolerance did not like me for doing that but my nostalgic tastebuds enjoyed every minute of it.

Daniel Wu Instagram - I have been shooting a movie in China for the last few weeks. It’s been nice to be back after 4 years away. I spent most of my career here so seeing familiar faces and working in Chinese has been nice. Got a day off today which was a coincidence because Thanksgiving is obviously not celebrated here so I went for a walk to find a place to meditate which I haven’t done in ages. I found a hill behind my hotel and made my way through the trees to the top where there was a small clearing. I took off my shoes, grounded and did a nice standing meditation session. It is cold outside but the leaves and ground under my feet felt warm so I tried to pull that warmth up into my body. I had some tensions in my body culminating in some aches and pains that eventually worked themselves away. When I was done, I looked up and saw this view which had a powerful affect on me. The world is out of balance. A black hole of darkness has been pulling humanity into it’s core affecting us on many levels. It’s hard not to feel helpless and hopeless. The natural instinct is to react with equal or more darkness (which I have been guilty of) however that just simply increases the power of that black hole creating more despair. The only way to counter this black hole is to look for the light through all this mess. It is difficult but that lightness is there, it is just being obscured by the darkness. We must do our best to be the light instead of reacting to the dark . It doesn’t have to change the world in one go but small pinholes can make a difference that can eventually break through. So be the light. Be love. Bring that balance back.

We had one session but had to do a bunch of technical things which ate into my track time so when I finally got out there I was a bit too eager on the brand new tires and had a little spin in turn three. In the end I only got about 4 laps which was not enough time for me to get a good pace or rhythm going. This is a new car and a new track so my mind was busy and couldn’t focus on just the driving. Although I spent the last month training on my home simulator, it’s not the same as being here for real. Also I was not prepared for how hot it was going to be in the car. The thick race suit and no ventilation in the car felt like I was driving a sauna around the track. We will be installing the cool shirt system tomorrow so hopefully that will help. I have two more practice sessions tomorrow and hopefully I can pick up some pace and get myself where I need to be for the races on the weekend.🤞#racecar #honda #jas #civictyper #TCR

Daniel Wu Instagram - This one hurts really bad. In the past few years I have seen my parents go as well as some of my mentors but this year I am starting to see my friends and contemporaries leaving us too. Davy Chan or “Brother Big Fly” as we called him was not only a good friend but was an inspiration to me during a really dark time early in my career. As a founding member of one of Hong Kong’s earliest metal bands Anodize, as well as a founding member of Hong Kong’s first hip-hop group Lazy Mutha Fucka, he showed that you could do things in a way without conforming or giving a shit what others thought. I always looked up to the way he handled himself in business and his art. We spent many many hours playing and working together over the years and I always loved spending time with Brother Big Fly. He had recently moved to Japan and my biggest regret now is not paying him a visit when I was there this year. I spent most of my career here so seeing familiar faces and working in Chinese has been nice. Got a day off today which was a coincidence because Thanksgiving is obviously not celebrated here so I went for a walk to find a place to meditate which I haven’t done in ages. I found a hill behind my hotel and made my way through the trees to the top where there was a small clearing. I took off my shoes, grounded and did a nice standing meditation session. It is cold outside but the leaves and ground under my feet felt warm so I tried to pull that warmth up into my body. I had some tensions in my body culminating in some aches and pains that eventually worked themselves away. When I was done, I looked up and saw this view which had a powerful affect on me. The world is out of balance. A black hole of darkness has been pulling humanity into it’s core affecting us on many levels. It’s hard not to feel helpless and hopeless. The natural instinct is to react with equal or more darkness (which I have been guilty of) however that just simply increases the power of that black hole creating more despair. The only way to counter this black hole is to look for the light through all this mess. It is difficult but that lightness is there, it is just being obscured by the darkness. We must do our best to be the light instead of reacting to the dark . It doesn’t have to change the world in one go but small pinholes can make a difference that can eventually break through. So be the light. Be love. Bring that balance back.

Caption : Photo dump from today’s first practice. Today didn’t go as I hoped. We had one session but had to do a bunch of technical things which ate into my track time so when I finally got out there I was a bit too eager on the brand new tires and had a little spin in turn three. In the end I only got about 4 laps which was not enough time for me to get a good pace or rhythm going. This is a new car and a new track so my mind was busy and couldn’t focus on just the driving. Although I spent the last month training on my home simulator, it’s not the same as being here for real. Also I was not prepared for how hot it was going to be in the car. The thick race suit and no ventilation in the car felt like I was driving a sauna around the track. We will be installing the cool shirt system tomorrow so hopefully that will help. In the past few years I have seen my parents go as well as some of my mentors but this year I am starting to see my friends and contemporaries leaving us too. Davy Chan or “Brother Big Fly” as we called him was not only a good friend but was an inspiration to me during a really dark time early in my career. As a founding member of one of Hong Kong’s earliest metal bands Anodize, as well as a founding member of Hong Kong’s first hip-hop group Lazy Mutha Fucka, he showed that you could do things in a way without conforming or giving a shit what others thought. I always looked up to the way he handled himself in business and his art. We spent many many hours playing and working together over the years and I always loved spending time with Brother Big Fly. He had recently moved to Japan and my biggest regret now is not paying him a visit when I was there this year. I thought “There will be plenty of opportunities to see him, I’ll be back in Japan soon.” So if you are middle aged like me, make the time to spend time with the people you care about.
