Caption : Just back from an awesome couple nights out family winter camping in our area. Hand lining this fish in on 6lb test took some time but I landed my PB from this species. Can anyone tell me what kind of fish this is? Stay tuned for the video on this adventure and it won’t be long until we head out again. #outdoors #icefishing #wintercamping #adventuresinnorthernontario #familycamping #walltent #nightphotographyLikes : 2374

Caption : Yesterday, @torigoesoutside and I got the news that @natgeotv won’t be creating any additional episodes of our show, “Home in the Wild”. This is due to their pulling back on everything and that the show didn’t find the audience they’d hoped for. Never the less, we are proud of what we acoplished through the show and I hope you all enjoyed watching it. Hopefully the future holds some more opportunities to bring everyone more exciting TV covering our adventures (one closed door always means there’s an open one). I’ll leave you with a few behind-the-scenes shots of the production in and around our house. #jbadventurer #foxg1research #outdoors #natureseekers #accessableadventures #natgeo #homeinthewild #camping #canoeingLikes : 1265

Caption : Back from a week of hunting out of my canvas tent. We hunted hard every day and we’re happy to have had some success. I’m feeling thankful for the land around where I live and what it provides – food for my family and a strong sense of connection. I’m particularly feeling thankful for my family and wife @torigoesoutside who took on the real challenge of managing the kids while I was away. These trips require a ton of prep time and logistics which can seem daunting with all that’s going on in our day to day lives and this one was no exception. Reflecting on it now that all is said and done, I’m reminded again that all the work is worth it because doing hard things provides us with a lot of fulfillment. #outdoors #hunting #jbadventurer #deer #walltent #deerseasonLikes : 1256

Caption : New video up! (Link in bio.). In this one, @torigoesoutside and I continue down Northern BC’s Stikine River towards Alaska with our family. We camp in a couple nice places where we need to put our tarp to good use because of the rain. Breaking camp in the morning takes a lot more time with kids as they need to be fed and dressed, (you can see me putting on Wesley’s wet suit on in one of the pics here). Both adults can’t really work at camp tasks at the same time because one of us needs to keep a watchful eye on our son Hudson who likes to go for hikes (with or without us!). Things get more challenging when we’re traveling down river and the rain really picks up…it just won’t let up for hours and hours on end and we’re soaked. Come evening, we begin searching for a cabin that should be close by. Our river notes are 30 years old so we don’t really know if it’s even there anymore. Soaked to the bone, at this point we’d be very grateful for a place to get warm and dry out tons of wet cloths. Do we find it? #alaska #jbadventurer #stikineriver #canoetrip #familycamping #outdoors #campwithkids #wildernessLikes : 1181

Caption : (Full vid. linked in bio.) Morning at camp on Day 3 was a little more interesting than usual with something hanging out in the woods near by. After loading the canoe while our son Hudson belted out the toddler anthem Jonny Jonny, we continued our journey down the mighty Stikine River towards Alaska. We were looking to make up for lost time but heavy rain and wind slowed us down. We had to again make a sturdy tarp rig at camp to escape the downpour that evening. In the shelter of the tarp that night, my wife @torigoesoutside cooked up a the best camping meal ever which really hit the spot. Caption : I have some exciting news here….Alex Mathias, a Temagami Elder, has spent his life living on n’Daki Menan. He was raised on the land, and has a lifetime of knowledge of the history, the traditions, and the people of this land. Chris Beeman, Ph. D., is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Education at Brandon University in Manitoba. He earned his Doctorate of Education from Queen’s University at Kingston and teaches in the area of indigenous epistemologies and ontologies. Alex and Chris have worked together to record this invaluable collection of stories as told by Alex Mathias about his early life growing up on Obabika Lake, within his family territory in the Temagami region. The book is for sale on the @friendsoftemagami website – link in the bio! Alex is a friend of mine and he’s the one who gave me my old dog Buck who came on several big adventures with me. If you do the math, the dog in the background of this picture would be Buck’s Great, Great, Great, Great, Great Grandfather. #outdoors #indigenous #dogs #newbook #canadiana #temagami #history #themdaysLikes : 1081

Caption : I just scanned a few pics from my 2005 canoe trip down the South Nahanni River in Canada’s Northwest Territories. Trip participants included my buddy Arie @adventure_fitt_akasha and my brother @ted.baird it was a self guided trip and was super expensive for us at the time. Multiple well meaning people told me that this was a once in a lifetime trip and to do it now while I’m young. After this adventure I was deeply hooked and I just couldn’t accept that. Looking back 18 years later, I’m glad I didn’t listen to them. Stay tuned for a film I have on the go that will include some content from this early trip and others. #nahanni #adventure #canoeing #outdoors #blastfromthepast #mountains #spectacularnwtLikes : 1077
