Nakuul Mehta Instagram - For any 90s kid who grew up on Indian television, the man to my left was the guy to watch out for! His electric presence, frenetic energy and full bodied acting chops always had me in awe. I got a chance to play his on screen son on 2 seasons of a lovely show we made pre & post pandemic, ā€˜Never Kiss Your Best Friendā€™ and therein I had my moment with my TV hero. Vividly recall shooting a pretty sensitive scene with him & my reel mother where his contribution was limited to reacting to the drama between the mother and the son . For some reason we kept taking multiple chops at the scene but at every point he kept coming back to me and whispered words of encouragement in my ear. He was clued in, his energies goading you to do better and always a pat on the back & good word for what we did! Our last scene together was from S2 where we shot a very sensitively written scene of an estranged son trying to have a conversation with his widowed father and it felt so real and beautiful and it flowed. We finished the scene, took this picture you see right now and then he embraced me and this time it wasnā€™t a whisper but in his full blooded voice told me that he was proud of me and that I reminded him of his younger days! We promised to keep in touch. I probably ran into him at an awards function last and thatā€™s that. Woke up to the news of his passing away this morning! I know he gave me great joy as an audience and then he gave me us some more whilst sharing a set with him. Go well, Ritu Sir šŸ’”šŸ™šŸ»

This started as a jamming session between Mumma & Baccha, but as soon as Sufi spotted Nakuul with the camera, he decided to dodge the frame and do exactly what his Dadda was doing. šŸ“øšŸŒŸ It turns out, you canā€™t really plan when youā€™ve got a toddler ruling the house! After a couple of earnest attempts, we surrendered to Sufiā€™s creative spirit. This little boy was on cloud nine, perched on his Daddaā€™s lap, capturing Mummaā€™s candid moments and singing his fave tune in fragments alongside šŸŽ¶ The takeaway- Sometimes, despite all the plans in your head, itā€™s just wise to let the little ones lead the way whilst you embrace their excitement and curiosity in each moment. From the moment we let him take over, this transformed into the most joyous activity for all three of us. So, hereā€™s to going with the flow, following their lead, and creating memories that are messy, spontaneous, and absolutely wonderful. šŸŽ‰ #happindependenceday
Nakuul Mehta Instagram - Spending a fortnight up close with Ranbir in a dark cold dubbing studio with only a flask containing hot water, turmeric, honey & some extremely black coffee for company has been one heck of a ride I promise you! Watching one of the finest of our generation deliver this cracker of an act so up close has been both beautiful and at times painful given the playing field of the film. It has felt liberating, powerful, painful and never ending at different points yet I feel so enriched have had this wonderful opportunity to recreate this act in English under the expert direction of the amazing @benaifermirza & the relentless @sagar.dani666 at @mayukhiinsyncstudios. Animal is now also playing in ENGLISH on Netflix. Would love to hear your thoughts if you do end up giving it a watch. P.S. Also to everyone who volunteered to bring me Vocalzone pastilles from across the world, your kindness carried me through the fortnight I spent with a beaten throat trying to recreate this high octane performance. His electric presence, frenetic energy and full bodied acting chops always had me in awe. I got a chance to play his on screen son on 2 seasons of a lovely show we made pre & post pandemic, ā€˜Never Kiss Your Best Friendā€™ and therein I had my moment with my TV hero. Vividly recall shooting a pretty sensitive scene with him & my reel mother where his contribution was limited to reacting to the drama between the mother and the son . For some reason we kept taking multiple chops at the scene but at every point he kept coming back to me and whispered words of encouragement in my ear. He was clued in, his energies goading you to do better and always a pat on the back & good word for what we did! Our last scene together was from S2 where we shot a very sensitively written scene of an estranged son trying to have a conversation with his widowed father and it felt so real and beautiful and it flowed. We finished the scene, took this picture you see right now and then he embraced me and this time it wasnā€™t a whisper but in his full blooded voice told me that he was proud of me and that I reminded him of his younger days! We promised to keep in touch. I probably ran into him at an awards function last and thatā€™s that. Woke up to the news of his passing away this morning! I know he gave me great joy as an audience and then he gave me us some more whilst sharing a set with him. Go well, Ritu Sir šŸ’”šŸ™šŸ»
