True to form, the estate auction of André Leon Talley was as grand as he. Far exceeding the pre-sale estimates, Christie’s raised over $3.5 million for his beneficiaries, Abyssinian Baptist Church in Harlem and Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church in Durham, North Carolina. The iconic auction house saw a tremendous number of new bidders, many of whom were millennials. While all 66 lots sold at Christie’s and another 300 online, there are many more treasures in André’s estate. André left a bequest of clothing, accessories, and fashion memorabilia to SCAD, to be displayed, as well as his beloved Truman Capote sofa. Prior to the auction, the trust opened his home, allowing SCAD to acquire over 300 items, enough for a least 65 complete looks of Andre’s, including one of the 3 Norma Kamali Sleeping Bag coats. Special thanks to all of you, to the incomparable @therealdvf and to @christiesinc for the care and concern for the legacy and cherished belongings of our dear André. As Pulitzer Prize-winning fashion critic @robingivhan said, “A man is much more than his possession, but in the case of André, these objects allude to the dignity instilled by his Southern upbringing, the bounty of his star-dusted life.” We look forward to future exhibitions @scaddotedu the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture @nmaahc and others. We thank God for André’s life and for his continued blessings. 🕊️ #sundayservice #thechiffontrenches #howigotover #andreleontally 📸// @squirefox Represented by Art Department Licensing by August Image

“I’ve known Karl since 1975; we met for the first time at The Plaza hotel in New York over tea with Andy Warhol. Karl mentored me in everything: French history, literature, the history of fashion, art.” @voguemagazine #thechiffontrenches #metball #karllagerfeld @robert_fairer June 2010

When I landed in Paris in 1978, Karl and I were already friends. He helped organize my life, and our deep friendship continued. We had mutual friends, especially Paloma Picasso. For years, she was dressed at Chanel and Fendi. Karl threw her lavish wedding dinner, and I was right there, in the heat of the high-boil evening, alongside Yves Saint Laurent, who had dressed her in a Broadway suit and a bird’s nest of a hat for the day ceremony, and Karl himself, who designed the evening dress of cyclamen satin. The whole dinner was inspired by a dinner from the French court of the 18th century. #thechiffontrenches #karllagerfeld #metball #chanel #paris
