When I worked at a bookshop, I sold so many – and coveted – @kylie_kwong cookbooks. When we moved to Sydney, Billy Kwong was *the* special occasion restaurant for us, and the first place I booked when my late uncle visited from overseas. More recently, Lucky Kwong has been a lunch-time revelation.
If you’ve eaten Kylie’s food, you’ve tasted how seamlessly she integrates sustainable native Australian ingredients – Davidson plums! Meal worms! Crickets! – into Cantonese cooking. It’s her food that made me realise “Chinese-Australian” cuisine can be its own distinct and unique thing.
