My first surprise when reading the Qur’an for the first time, was to find out that Muslims believed in God! Call me ignorant, but that was the first big lesson and quite the opposite of what I expected. I had some kind of idea that, maybe like Christianity, they worshipped Muhammad or perhaps mountains, moons or astral bodies; never in my wildest imaginary excursions did I ever suspect that I would find the name of God in the Qur’an. I had heard the name ‘Allah’ being pronounced and referred to as some kind of Arab deity, never having been told that it was the same original Semitic name for God as found and printed in every Arabic Bible. #ramadan #islam #allah #quran #peace
