These are the images I normally DON’T share on social media… but behind all of my favorite adventure, passion projects are also commercial shoots. Passion projects don’t always pay the bills and as a freelancer, you take on work that isn’t necessarily the most inspiring to keep your business alive & feed your family – I still do to this day. Even though this type of work isn’t the most exciting like surfing under the northern lights or riding a bike across glaciers in Iceland.. it can still be a lot of fun and I have the utmost respect for creatives who dedicate their craft to this part of the industry.

“Deep in the human unconscious is a pervasive need for a logical universe that makes sense. But the universe is always one step beyond logic.” Frank Herbert – Dune
I truly respect and find necessary the scientific approach of trying to define and understand different aspects of life… like what causes a delicate and harsh ecosystem like Death Valley to stay in balance or a coral reef to thrive. But I also find that sometimes that desire can be limiting and sometimes narrows my ability to allow the mystical aspect of nature to speak to me. Surprisingly enough, the less I try to listen/find out and more energy I put towards being in the present – I hear more of what the world is saying to me. The desert is one of those places that feels a little more thin between a mystical and the real… somewhere I’ll keep coming back to.
This image from a beautiful October night last year shot during an assignment for @natgeo
From my expression in the first image you’d think I hate flying but in all reality it’s where I’m happiest… especially if if the doors’ open with an expansive view and cold wind in my face. Here’s a series of some favorites shot in New Zealand during an assignment for Icebreaker in 2018, documenting Mt. Cook and it’s beautiful surrounding valleys. A landscape that encourages time spent away from man-made structures and preferably among blue glaciers & vast mountain ranges

Patagonia is one of those places on earth that feels somewhat untouched by time… easier to enter into communion with nature at the rugged foot of the Andes, distracted only by occasional rush of wind through the valley and the constant sound of water flowing downstream. Last fall during an assignment for @elevenexperience I had the unique pleasure of fly fishing in the Rio Palena not far from the Chile/Argentina border…a truly meditative experience that feels more like a dream than a memory.
The Best kind of couples therapy? Happy belated Valentine’s Day.
I was on assignment for @sonyalpha & The National Parks in 2017 with my good friend @renanozturk accompanying me as a DP… we felt like the best way to communicate the scale and beauty of Colorado’s Great Sand Dune was from the air with @shotsfromabove as our subject. The light couldn’t have been better that day and this is one of my favorites from that trip.

It’s no understatement that Fezzari, now @ari.bikes has been a constant supporter & believer in being fully immersed in the moment through cycling and the gritty adventures that come with that. An ethos that I also hold close and really value in the partners that I work with. I wanted to share a few images from the last few years showcasing multiple expeditions on three totally different bikes – totally different riding disciplines, which to me… is the strength of ARI, offering different tools that compliment various types of riding. More rides to come and expeditions to plan with this excellent family owned company made up from an amazing group of people… check their page @ari.bikes for updates as this exciting chapter unfolds.

Everyone has different reasons for pursuing the remote regions on our planet.. but one common denominator remains of the unmistakable feeling of awe when a landscape like this one stretches in front of you… bringing a sense of smallness and inviting you into details both large and small, teeming with life as these fjords in Patagonia often are. Getting “lost” in vast places like this one always feels like a step towards finding myself these days – something I hope to inspire others to also do.
Shot while on a beautiful flight with @aeroalerce from the copilot’s seat of a Husky during an assignment for @elevenexperience last fall in Chile.
Bike packing first drew me in as a unique challenge of exploring autonomously, carrying everything with you… a combined with action, strategy in packing, and route finding. In 2020, I decided to ride across Iceland from the eastern shores to the west edge… and exciting prospect I thought would be stimulating and difficult but in the end, rewarding. While the expedition turned out to be those things (and much more), I found that more importantly – the ride was a meditation of the landscape. An immersion of sorts into each sweeping fjord, grain of sand, cracking glacier… countless intimate details that stretched from Iceland’s east to west. It was a true silver lining and showed gave me a new appreciation for the sport and it’s ability to bring me into the rhythm of a landscape. I’ve been taking road trips to this part of the country as long as I can remember… The canyons and high Desert textures have a lot of sentimental value & mystery for me, leading me to keep coming back to explore various corners of the state and try to see it from several different perspectives. Paragliding, in my opinion is one of the best ways to take in the landscape with unencumbered views (aside from your legs dangling hundreds of feet up) perfect for a photographer & gives you an exciting but peaceful experience…. Feels about as close to bird’s eye as you can get
