It was a difficult day at the TN General Assembly today.
It’s a daily struggle at the Tennessee General Assembly…but today is **hopefully** the last day of session of the year! Thank you to everyone who has showed up, marched, had your voices heard from the gallery, prayed for our safety, and supported us during this struggle for Justice at the statehouse. You are all CHAMPIONS!!!!!!
Disgusting! Sexton ordered the gallery to be cleared and our friend, who’s been advocating to keep guns out of our school, was ARRESTED for doing NOTHING!
Racist Ragan and his supporters are mad because people are calling them what they are. To retaliate against citizens holding signs, Sexton forced people into one section of the gallery, despite there being plenty of seats open. It was disheartening and disappointing to see General assembly employees enforce these asinine rules. They must have forgotten that this is the PEOPLE’S HOUSE and not their private lobbyist club. Thank you to the justice warriors who show up everyday despite the injustices we endure. Thank you!!
New hair, who dis? Ha! Loving my new hairstyle by my lovely fiancé @oceanaoceanb! This was her first time doing cornrows 🥰 let us know what you think of my new style in the comments 🪮
Shameful! Sexton is USING troopers and staff to enforce unjust rules. The gallery was cleared and our friend was arrested for doing nothing. Now, we are sitting outside a holding room waiting for them to release her.
More guns in schools is dangerous and republicans are refusing to listen to teachers and parents who do NOT want this. Please check out my latest opinion piece in @cnn on how house republicans are pushing for more guns in schools despite the majority of Tennesseans and Americans—especially parents, students and law enforcement professionals—being against it. What is it, the braids? 🎵 All jokes aside, we are always going to put in the work for our District and will never be silenced! ✊🏾💙✊🏾
TN House Republicans just passed a bill to arm teachers.
Thank you @tennesseannews and David Plazas for sharing my thoughts on how Tennessee politics are woefully out of touch with the rest of our nation. It’s time we stop using bad legislation to bully marginalized communities and instead choose People over power! Check out the article in the link in my bio https://www.tennessean.com/story/opinion/contributors/2024/05/14/tennessee-three-lawmaker-justin-pearson-tells-colleagues-to-stop-bullying/73629114007/
It is encouraging to be in the company of incredible colleagues and friends who are working tirelessly to end the epidemic of gun violence. Thank you @gabbygiffords for your years of service and commitment to the Movement for Justice! We MUST protect kids, NOT guns!
Mic drop moment 🎤 Rep. Justin J. Pearson announced that he, along with former Stockton Mayor Michael Tubbs, Prophet (Co-Founder of BMAC), and the Black Music Action Coalition, will introduce guaranteed income legislation next session. We know that some legislators will oppose this legislation, but we also know that investing in our constituents is the best thing we can do to alleviate poverty. We are proud of this legislation and will fight to see it through. Thank you @bma_coalition and @michaeldtubbs ✊🏾!
Update! Anti reparations bill HB0474 will NOT be progressing any further this session as it was TABLED. This is because of #PeoplePower! Thank you to everyone who showed up and signed the petition to stop this bad bill. ✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾
March for Justice happening at the Tennessee State Capitol! Republicans canceled our session because the voices of the righteous scare them.
Six years ago today, four people lost theirs lives to gun violence during the Waffle House Mass Shooting in Nashville. I am honored to know Shaundelle Brooks, who has been fighting tirelessly in her son Akilah’s memory. Ms. Shaundelle has turned her pain into passion for ending this gun violence epidemic and is now running for office to serve in the Tennessee State House. She is an inspiration on the journey and her tireless commitment shows. We will never forget Akilah, Joe, Taurean, and DeEbony whose beautiful souls we lost on that day. We will never quit fighting for them.

A few more highlights from this week’s amazing event with Mayor Tubbs and the BMAC Family to advocate for guaranteed income for artists. It was an honor to share space with incredible artists, including Alice Randall—the first Black woman to write a number-one country hit! Economic justice is racial justice! @msalicerandall @michaeldtubbs @bma_coalition

Happy Earth Day! Justice is clean air, soil and water for EVERYONE. That means putting People over profit!
Insightful discussions led by @Prophet5050 at @LiveNation #Nashville who sat down with former Mayor of Stockton @MichaelDTubbs and TN, State Representative @JustinJPearson to break down the critical need for guaranteed income and shared actionable steps to turn the protest into policy in the state of #Tennessee #BMAC #GuaranteedIncome #MayorsForGuaranteedIncome
