Repost from @rescueorg • No more violence. No more deaths. No more arms transfers. We’re joining 250 humanitarian and human rights organizations in a call to stop arms transfers to Israeli and Palestinian armed groups that could be used to commit violations of international humanitarian and human rights law in Gaza. Israel’s bombardment and siege has created an unprecedented humanitarian crisis, with over 34,000 Palestinians killed and over 70% of Gaza’s population displaced. Attacks by Palestinian armed groups killed around 1,200 people and took hundreds of Israeli and international hostages. Gaza has experienced the most intense use of explosive weapons in a densely populated area this century, with an estimated 45,000 bombs dropped during the first 89 days of conflict alone. These conditions have created a situation of utter desperation. This will not change until the siege, the bombardment and the fighting ends. End arms transfers. Ceasefire now.

Repost from @rescueorg • Make no mistake: the humanitarian crisis in Gaza is not inevitable. It is the result of intentional decisions being made on the ground about how aid is delivered into the area.  The Israeli blockade of food, water, fuel, and essential medicines and supplies is inflicting immense suffering on Palestinians in Gaza. While the opening of Erez crossing and Ashdod port are important steps in the right direction to alleviating the record humanitarian suffering in Gaza, significant challenges remain, and much more needs to be done.  What must happen is clear: more routes must open for land delivery of aid into Gaza and there must be an immediate ceasefire to allow for the necessary scale up of aid to prevent further human suffering.

Repost from @whenweallvote • Today, the U.S. Supreme Court is hearing oral arguments in FDA v. Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine — a case that will decide national access to #Mifepristone, a medication abortion pill used in over 60% of abortion procedures nationwide. In light of this case, we’re here to share an important reminder: Reproductive Care is Healthcare, and it’s on the ballot this year. Across the country, elected officials are failing to protect Americans’ right to make decisions about their bodies, families, and lives. Attacks on reproductive rights restrict Americans’ access to standard pregnancy care and worsen maternal health overall. In 2024, reproductive healthcare is on the ballot in as many as 15 states. Your vote is your voice. Make sure you’re registered NOW at the 🔗 in our bio — then remind three friends to check their registration too.

Repost from @daratuckerb Pregnant Black women are dying at an astronomically high rate, and the alarming number of abortion bans we’re seeing instated at the state level will only drive those numbers up. @ppact

Repost from @garrisonh The half a billion dollar heist that robbed Black people of the most expensive land in America – it’s time to expose this carefully calculated scheme. Seneca Village Before Central Park was created, the landscape along what is now the Park’s perimeter from West 82nd to West 89th Street was the site of Seneca Village, a community of predominantly African-Americans, many of whom owned property. Founded in 1825, Seneca Village was the first community of free African Americans in New York City, many of whom owned property. In the 1840s, White upper class New Yorkers began calling for the construction of a large park in Manhattan, using the media to deride Seneca Village and other working-class communities in the area. Despite protests and legal resistance by residents, all inhabitants were evicted by 1857 and their properties destroyed for the construction of Central Park, with no compensation given to these residents, or their descendents, for land that is now worth over $500 million. #history #blackhistory #sennecavillage #centralpark
