RIP Matthew Perry. I served him once, many moons ago, when I worked at the Chelsea Harbour Club. He’d just finished playing tennis and he and his friend each had a giant spinach based super juice thingumajig. He then pulled out a pack of Marlborough Lights and asked me for a light. You obviously couldn’t smoke in a health club bar, despite it being prior to 2007, and so I gave him my Clipper and pointed him towards the terrace. That was the last I saw of him. He stole my lighter, a good one too. It’s OK Matthew, you can keep it. Rest in Peace buddy.

13 years ago today. One of our first ever Sundays as publicans. A snap of the bar first thing in the morning before a busy day. And that feeling of a super fresh #pub newly refurbished and yet to get frayed edges with use. I don’t miss #london but I do miss our old Victorian lump of a pub. 🍻

This #londoncocktailweek saw the first ever edition of our brand-new initiative, Britain’s Best Home Bartender. Entrants from across the UK entered their home cocktail recipes and we invited three finalists to @thehoxtonhotel Southwark to mix them for our judges, TV’s @merlinfdc4 and LCW founders @hsharmancox and @londonsiobhan, for the chance to win a host of amazing prizes in association with The Whisky Exchange, @merlinfdc4 and @johnniewalker. Congratulations to Jonathan Travers-Smith @jon_hotpot for his winning cocktail, Pine Time, a piney, autumnal take on a classic sour featuring gin, chartreuse, egg white, fresh rosemary and the unusual addition of weissbier. Runners-up Alison Higgins @alialihiggins and Sean Gorman also hugely impressed our judges with their signature cocktails, the Margarita Passion and Nylon. Thanks to all who took part and all of our partners who supported the initiative. We’re already looking forward to seeing the UK’s best home bartenders shake and stir up next year.
