Every day at 3pm the Yanomami blow Yopo through bamboo into the noses of the shaman. This gray powder is composed of several seeds and leaves from the jungle which contain powerful hallucinogenic effects.
This allows the shaman to see spirits.
This allows the shaman to fight spirits.
The Yanomami believe that sickness is all in your mind, and you must battle daily against the bad spirits that try to infect your thoughts.
I stepped in with the village elders and went to war with my own spirits. But I’ve got to ask my audience….
