Morgxn Instagram – the year is 2020…
and while everyone has their story about 2020… i think i’m about to retire telling this story of my own
i was unceremoniously dropped from my label. literally only one person from the label (hi edwin) sent me a note. no one else called or sent a message. The people i had been building with since 2015 … just stopped calling
I had no manager and no label.
I had written this song WONDER that expressed my fears of never reaching people with my art again. And going broke in the process. It was something i felt very deeply in my heart and the writing if it – with @garygo & @parkwild – was it’s own form of “quiet quitting” in my head.
An astrologer (yes!) said that i should look into the months of june and july for my next release. And since i had no ground of my own to stand on .. i thought that there would be magic in just trusting the complete unknown
Anyways… if youve been here you know the story… i released the song. 100 million streams later and viral on just about every platform.
But behind the scenes i took my time. Said no to the deals that came in. Didnt rush to find management. Just found my own agency again after losing it.
But then the team did form. And together we worked on and released a version of WONDER that featured @sarabareilles singing with me. We performed it together on @jimmykimmellive .
Fast forward and ive signed a new deal. Just released my new album BEACON … and the winner of Canada’s Got Talent @jeanick.fournier loved the song so much, they translated it into French and invited me to record it with her. Big thanks to @guillaumemoffet for organizing and championing and helping me dust off my middle school and high school french lessons 🙂
Now tonight we perform it on one of the largest music TV shows in Canada just before they reveal their winner. This is a lot for me to process
What i’m trying to say is also .. social media is the highlights reel. But behind this moment is a song and a feeling that i hope inspires anyone to know it is never over.
