Take a bow, Mr Bhansali. Just finished watching 8 hours magnum opus, Heeramandi… and it was such a delight. Maybe this series is not meant for audiences who don’t believe in dialoguebaazi and onscreen opulence. So, some might find it slow, stretchy, and melodramatic. But for those who loves bitches, “begums” and story of betrayals, they will find this as nothing short of a masterpiece by creator and director Mr Sanjay Leela Bhansali. I am so happy to see all my friends killing it with their screen presence and histrionics, from Manisha Koirala to Sonakshi Sinha, from Richa Chadda to Aditi Rao Hydari, from Taha Shah to Jason Shah, from Fardeen Khan to Adhayan Suman, they have nailed it right. Personally, I feel that Manisha steals the show with her wide range performance, and she reminds me of a royal version of Begum Jaan’s character played astoundingly by national awarded Rituparna Sengupta in Srijit Mukherji’s Bengali film Rajkahini. Even the soul of the Heeramandi has uncanny resemblance with Mukherji’s Bengali saga. Once again Bhansali pays tribute to his favourite genre, “musical historical saga” and sets the tone right as he takes us to the bylanes of Heeramandi, the so called “tehezeebkhana” of Lahore with astounding art direction, soulful music, magical cinematography by Sudeep Chatterjee and exquisite costume by Rimple and Harpeet Narula. Don’t miss this saga on @netflix_in if you are looking for some top “notch” performance! ❤️👏

কে কে এই বাংলা নববর্ষের দিনে মন্দিরে পুজো দিয়ে পঞ্জিকা কিনেছেন? নতুন বাংলা ক্যালেন্ডার কিনেছেন? নাকি শুধুই ভুরি ভোজন আর ‘আমাজন’ (amazon) করিয়া দিন পার করিয়াছেন? 🤪🤣
“Kya ghum hai jisko chhupa rahe ho?” Bengali actor Nusrat Jahan looks at me and says, “You take the best selfies, you have to teach me,” while Celina Jaitly had once mentioned in Egypt, “Ram we all need to learn this art of lensing from you.” Even miss oh-so photogenic Paoli Dam says, “You know the right profile, and your selfies are the best.” And I was surprised when selfie king Karan Johar at the National Award after party in Delhi said, “Hmm, what’s with your 5 seconds timer, dude?” And seeing the result, he promptly corrected, “Accha, you got the light right, not bad!” Toodles! Hemaji (Malini) had once asked, “How does your skin glow?” She thought it was omega oil from the fish that I consume as a Bengali. But she was surprised to see the same glow after I had quit fish for almost a decade. Now, of course, she gives credit to my parents’ DNA. My fav Rukmini Maitra feels that my ‘revealing’ morning selfies are burning hearts of many. While women envy my affair with phone lenses, men insist I stop posting my solitude selfies on bed. Eh! But, let me share a fact today. The art and beauty of a selfie are to fall in love with the subject. And when you ‘are the’ subject, falling in self-love becomes tough. Nah, nah, it’s not narcissistic. It’s artistic. Just like, seeing mirror is, and showing mirror isn’t! One quick tip: After taking a selfie, one needs to adjust the saturation, temperature, highlights, and crop the frame right. Those who believe in raw images, they are even happy with their aadhar card photo, so we can count them out. For the rest, take selfies only when you care for yourself a little more than your neighbouring selfie. 🧿❣️
The rays of light, falling on my shoulder, assure me of hope. Just like a pat from mother nature, saying, “The lights are a part of this journey, just like the darkness!” It’s the journey that matters… Bon Voyage! 🧿❤️
