A decade-long journey has come to completion. I have finally liberated myself from industrial clothing! I am now wearing completely homemade, natural fiber, naturally dyed clothing! Down to the fiber, buttons, thread and dyes. My wardrobe consists of 19 items, each of which I have a deep connection with. No logos… No brands… Just the elements of the Earth. Over the last 8 months I have immersed myself… I have learned about different fabrics, fibers and plant dyes. I have sewed, knitted, felted and dyed. I have harvested plants and prepared dye baths. I have overcome many moments of overwhelm and confusion in a realm that was new to me. I have seen the magic of black walnuts and indigo in contact with cotton, linen and wool, creating colors that enlivened me deep inside. I have deepened my connection with Earth and taken another substantial step away from consumerism and materialism. Although I put in over 100 hours of work into these clothes, the community put in just as much or more. My success exists as a result of the many community members who supported me with their knowledge, skills and resources. This marks a chapter on this journey of liberation. At the age of 37, I intend to spend the decades ahead in clothing of this manner. Clothing that represents my own liberation as well as a symbol of the liberation Earth and humanity can have if we learn to foster harmonious relationships. In truth, the journey is not over. In the years ahead I intend to spend a chapter close to the land and grow all of my fibers from source and take part in every step, directly in contact and harmony with the land that I am on, to make a wardrobe that is fully from one place on Earth and can fully return to that place. Ultimately, this is a move forward in readying myself for my eventual mission to return my body to Earth, completing the cycle of life in harmony. I dream of every item I own returning to Earth with me, fully embracing my impermanence. To me, impermanence is a universal truth, and this is what I seek to be a part of. Love, Robin

This is my complete wardrobe, 19 items. All Natural fibers All Naturally dyed All Homemade The fibers are wool, linen, cotton and deer skin. The clothes were naturally dyed with black walnut, indigo, weld and turmeric. Sewed with cotton thread and deer sinew and buttons made from the branch of an avocado tree. There is absolutely no plastic elastic, metal or rubber. I have no pockets. These clothes are 100% biodegradable and will do no harm in returning to Earth. Their return will be no different than a leaf falling from a tree or an animal falling to the ground. This is how I intend to return in these clothes as well. My shoes are felted wool boots. My moccasins are deer skin with deer sinew – Ojibwe puckered toe style – with gratitude to the Anishinaabe people. I am barefoot most of the time, but these will keep my feet warm on colder days and protected when needed, while remaining connected with Earth. My hat, neck cowl, socks and mittens were hand knitted by Dear Friends. The shirts, pants, shorts, bag, long underwear, socks and shawl were sewn with an electric sewing machine, some by me and some by an apprentice. Although I have liberated myself from brands, logos, fast-fashion, toxic dyes and plastics in the clothes I wear, I desire to connect to the source of my clothes more deeply. The cotton, linen and wool long underwear were produced with organic and relatively sustainable farming practices, but involved large machinery and industry. I used mordants in the dying process that were involved in industry. I used items that my friends and I know how to source naturally and locally. The journey continues and will deepen… The Earth can provide us with EVERYTHING we need. I have dedicated my life to making this universal truth, MY truth. Because to experience something, is to truly know it… These clothes are one step forward in ascending the delusion of separateness with Earth. One step forward in being a living embodiment of a Dear Friend of Earth and all our fellow creatures. 4/24/2024 Update: The School Lunch campaign is on pause. See our website for details: robingreenfield.org/schoollunch —— School Lunch! For one month I will eat school lunch, and only school lunch – for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It’s what we feed our kids, so I should get healthier right? Let’s find out! That’s the premise of the upcoming short film where I explore what our children are eating at school, share the truth that I learn about the food system, and showcase schools that are growing healthy school lunches right in their schoolyards and sourcing from local, sustainable farmers. The month-long campaign will take place this April in Los Angeles. Along with the short film, School Lunch will also be a media campaign to reach millions with this message of questioning our food and changing our food systems and our personal actions. I’m grateful to be working with a production team on this film! I grew up on school lunch, but it has been close to two decades since I’ve eaten one. I’m incredibly curious to see if and how my health changes from a month of eating only school lunch. I will be doing medical tests before I begin and throughout the 30 days to track the changes in my health. We are looking for support from the community to pull this campaign off including finding a school in Los Angeles that would like to participate, sourcing my month of school lunches, a volunteer to assist with production, and simple housing for my time I am in LA. We are also looking for students and schools who are growing food for healthy school lunches to feature in the film. This has been my home for the last 37 days and nights as I completed my Food Freedom book. I have come to known the creatures of this land. Every morning I watched the songbirds foraging in my kitchen for the grains and seeds I dropped. A turkey hen gave birth to six chicks and I have observed them near daily. Just one of the chicks is alive today. I know which perches the hummingbirds sit on and I watch them with joy. Each night that I inspected my spring water bathtub, the same three tree frogs were in there. They laid eggs and I’ve watched the tadpoles develop from a state of barely living to exuberant exploration. There is no doubt that the essence of this land has influenced my last 200 hours of writing and working on this book. But this is not the only land that has made its mark. The writing began in my tiny house in the city of Orlando surrounded by my gardens. Then came the simple wooden home in the food forest of Costa Rica where I nourished myself with tropical fruits. The spring season of Southern France as the hills re-greened during lockdown came next. There was the stint in the Chequamegon National Forest of Wisconsin and then in the Appalachian Mountains of North Carolina and back to the shores of Lake Superior in a wood fired cabin near the shores of Lake Superior. At each of these locations, I thought the book would be complete. And each time I left with some disheartenment. But today, I wholeheartedly feel that the book was not ready until this very moment. I have learned so much in the last 4 years and the book has developed greatly. I’m ready to share this gift with the world. I’m sending the book to print in early June and expect the book to arrive the first week of July and will ship out promptly after. The book is available on a donation basis at robingreenfield.org/ff and 100% of the profits are donated to the food sovereignty movement. This is where I have been for the last week and where I will be for now. I am here to complete my Food Freedom book. It has been a long journey and I thought I would have completed this many times already. This is the time! I’m in the Santa Cruz Mountains of Northern California staying on the edge of an off the grid property surrounded by hundreds of acres of forest! The property is owned by a couple who found my first book in a used book store about 7 years ago and has followed me since. This platform serves as my desk to write with a healing view of the forest. There is a solar panel and battery on site to charge my laptop. There is a spring with fresh drinking water, and a bathtub to fill up and take my cold dips. I am sleeping in my tent under the trees. I have my wild rice, dehydrated mushrooms, greens, herbs and other dry and canned food from my last year of foraging. I’m cooking over wood from the forest with my small wood stove. I am foraging the spring greens that I can find and enjoying some herbs from the garden on site. Wifi is a 5 to 10 minute walk away at Martha and Dan’s. My basic needs are met. It is quite alive here with birds and insects. A small songbird landed on my head twice while I was sitting at this table writing. Hummingbirds land daily just feet from me on a branch, interacting with me. A large male turkey very clearly told me that this is his domain, not mine. The frogs have kept me company with their evening croaking and have laid eggs in my bath as well! Some days it is a bit chilly to be writing outside but I am grateful for all the Earth provides. I have hundreds of friends here amongst the plants and animals. This has been a nourishing and peaceful place to be after my month in Los Angeles. I have spent multiple days in silence and solitude and have had many long nights in bed, catching up on rest. I am elated to provide Food Freedom to you in June. I would love for every one of you to have this book in your hands. I’m offering it on a donation basis, so it is accessible to everyone, no matter their financial situation. You are welcome to order the book now at robingreenfield.org/shop/foodfreedom Love, Robin

Within this year there will be no “mine.” In the years ahead “I” and “me” will dissolve piece by piece. I am making the necessary preparations to put my full effort into living in deep integrity. With deep integrity I believe I can fully dedicate myself to selfless service to Earth, my fellow humanity and to the plants and animals we share this home with. This is an experiment that I have been on for 13 years and I will thoroughly deepen the experiment this year. It will take diligence and self-control and the desired outcome is not a given without thorough practice. My writing today will not answer all questions you may have at this point, however I will make clear my intentions and my strategy in the months ahead. After the last three years of having accumulated more possessions, primarily for the design of living closely with Earth, I have shed the majority of them. This picture, taken in front of the simple shelter where I lived most of the last two months shows what I now own. It is 4 buckets and a box of foraged food which I will eat in the months ahead, natural gifts from Earth which I will distribute with love, and some very basic possessions. I have reduced my possessions by 90% this year, including the content on my computer. I have shed many of my mental attachments and distractions. Non-ownership is at the center of my experiment with integrity and I intend to take this experiment further than I did in 2020 when I dwindled my possessions to just 44 items. At the moment, I am on my way to Los Angeles, where I will embark on a month-long experiment with truth in the food system beginning April 1st. I am sharing with you today from three places within me, Out of my commitment to those who follow me most closely and support my work. Out of a desire to share my plans as they unfold, to decrease the likeliness of it feeling abrupt to others. To deepen the reality of my plans within myself and bring them into fruition. I have found the greatest success in my pursuits by making my life a public experiment. Love, Robin I’m hosting gatherings in Austin and Tucson this Thursday and Sunday and will host numerous in LA. Here I have perched and here I have written… It is here, with no internet and nobody to talk to, that I shielded myself from the distractions of life and overcame a 4 year struggle… Many of you have heard me say that my book is coming, and then again, my book is coming. Today, a new chapter of my life begins. I have completed Food Freedom and I finally have this gift to offer to the world. There are many books out there and in my opinion this book is not absolutely needed. However, I feel certain that those who pick up this book are going to deepen their connection to the plants. Both the plants that are already growing freely and abundantly around them, and the plants they begin to grow through the inspiration and insight they receive from this book. Those who have never foraged a plant, will forage their first. Those who have never grown a plant, will grow their first. And those who are already on the plant path, will take another step. This is my gift and I offer it to you. Food Freedom documents my year of growing and foraging 100% of my food. It shares my journey of exploration and connection with our plant relatives and my realization that I can live in reciprocity. It explores the issues with our industrial food system and how communities are taking control of their food and creating food sovereignty. And it shares how you, too, can grow your own and forage to gain food freedom. It is an empowerment manual for liberation through food. The book is offered on a donation basis, with money as no barrier. I am submitting the book to print in early June and expect to be shipping books (worldwide) and delivering the ebooks in early July. Thank you to all have supported me in this endeavor. Completing this book starts a new chapter of integrity for me Love, Robin The book is available at robingreenfield.org/shop/foodfreedom I am hosting book readings and foraging walks here in Southern California as well! Dear Friends! I am seeking a robin bird design that I will use to represent Robin Press, the grassroots nonprofit publishing company I am starting. I am sharing this opportunity with the community for anyone who would find joy in contributing to my mission by using their art and graphic design skills. I am accepting submissions, and the artist that I choose will receive $100 and inclusion in the gratitude section of the Food Freedom book. I am hopeful of having the robin of my dreams with your support! Dear Friends! Join me in Los Angeles for a gathering of community connection and inspiration to live more simply, sustainably and in service to Earth. I welcome you to join for what will be a meaningful step forward in my pursuit of truth and integrity. I will come to this gathering with every possession I own and I intend to leave with only the items that fit comfortably on my bicycle. I plan to lay out my possessions on two blankets – one with what I will keep and the other with what I will give away. I will joyfully pass these items on to those of you who find value and meaning in them, while making space in my life for what matters most to me. I will share a talk on how I embrace simple and sustainable living as a means of living in harmony with Earth, humanity and the plants and animals we share this home with. At the same time how simple and sustainable living is part of my strategic life design of noncooperation with the systems of destruction and oppression. For those wishing, I will share my suggestions of how you can adopt simple and sustainable living practices into your life, starting with very accessible and manageable changes. Lastly, I will share an opportunity for you to ask any questions that are alive for you. I will be making a pot of Manoomin that I harvested with love and care from my homeland. Manoomin is a plant that has become quite sacred to me and I find deep meaning in sharing this food with my Dear Friends. I give gratitude to the Anishinaabe people who have been stewards of this plant relative for hundreds of years. Without their dedication Manoomin would quite likely no longer be in abundance anywhere on Turtle Island. I am looking forward to sharing a hug with each of you who joins. There will be ample opportunity for connecting with others and creating friendships that can help you on this path of reconnecting with Earth, your community, our plant and animal relatives, and yourself. Lastly, I’d like to welcome this gathering to be a potluck, with a focus on low waste and local foods! Families growing their own food at home to pack for healthy school lunches… Backyard and front yard gardeners and small farmers to grow food to provide to school lunches… How are We Supporting Beyond Seeds? -We have a step-by-step video series and growing guide that shows exactly how to grow this food from planning the garden, to planting the seeds, to tending the garden, to harvesting the food! -We will host a few live Q&A sessions where you can ask me any garden questions. -We are providing grants of $250 to 5 schools to cover the costs to start a small garden. Who’s Eligible? Anyone who wants to and can grow food at their school or to benefit children at a school in their community! How to Sign Up? Submit your request for a seed pack at robingreenfield.org/seedsforschools We will be shipping the first round of seeds in late April. We are grateful to the Live Like Ally Foundation and Dan Keston for providing the funding to launch Seeds for Schools! Want to contribute to Seeds for Schools? Dear Friends of the Northwoods, Northland College is a pillar of the Chequamegon Bay Community and my hometown of Ashland, Wisconsin. They are at a risk of shutting down. I support the community group @northland_forever in their efforts to save Northland College. I encourage you to support the community and inform yourself with the detailed information they have shared here and will continue to share in the weeks ahead. Ashland would not be the same for me, and thousands of others without Northland’s presence. Love, Robin
