The very first Slash solo album featuring everyone from Ozzy Osborne, Chris Cornell, Fergie, Adam Levine, Ian Astbury, Andrew Stockdale and more (including one Myles Kennedy) was released 14 years ago TODAY. Slash, Myles, Brent and I have been playing together for 14 years. Here’s one of the earliest rehearsals with the four us plus our pal Bobby Schneck on guitar. Within a week we would be playing on Jay Leno’s Tonight Show, Craig Ferguson’s Late Late Show, and a bunch more. Then a warm up show at @theroxy in Hollywood before a world tour. Now here we are 14 years later together, along with Frank Sidoris, back in the UK doing what we do. TONIGHT in the beautiful city of Newcastle. Such a stunning city. 14 years ago tonight we appeared on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson @craigyferg It was most recently hosted by James Corden but back then Craig helmed it. Oddly enough we filmed our portion in the afternoon before he started filming that episode. They loaded an audience in, we played for them and then they loaded em out. Later they filmed the show where Craig introduced us but we weren’t there then they just threw to the pre taped performance. Oh, showbiz. Here we are again with @andrewjstockdale No @officialmyleskennedy yet. Weird huh? And now 14 years later we will be on stage in the great city of Amsterdam. I wish we had more time to hang out. This is how excited I am to be in Manchester! So much amazing Rock And Roll from here. Joy Division, New Order, The Smiths, Buzzcocks, Stone Roses, Happy Mondays, Oasis and so many more. My favorite part of touring the UK is how much Rock And Roll history there is from one town to the next. Newcastle was incredible last night. This photo is from there. It’s been awesome having @wolfvanhalen and @mammothwvh out here absolutely crushing it night after night. Gotta thank them for loaning out their guitar player @franksidoris to us. We are halfway through the UK chapter now so I’m making the most of it. A successful shopping trip to @prettygreenltd and another dining dream @dishoom I love Indian food. A couple of Kerns’, a couple of Fitzes and one of the most underrated guitar players on the planet, Mr. @mikemccreadypj We had an amazing time at the @pearljam show last night in Vegas. What a show. What a crowd. The band has one of the most loyal and passionate followings I’ve ever witnessed. Their crowd know the words to every single song of the set. Even the newest ones from Dark Matter the new album. I first saw PJ on the 1992 Lollapalooza tour. It was the second Lollapalooza tour and PJ were the gigantic new kids. Ten was such a massive game changer of an album. Of course I have been with @stonecarpentergossard and @jeffamentsarmy since Mother Love Bone. One of my all time fave bands. On that same Lolapalooza show was another breakout band called Soundgarden. Their drummer, @themattcameron is now in Pearl Jam and is one of the most understated and masterful players on the planet. As Mr Vedder said last night, “To call Matt Cameron the greatest drummer in the world he’d still be underrated”. Mike McCready tore the roof off the place last night and it made me wonder why I don’t hear more about what a monster player he is. Jeff Ament is one of my bass guitar heroes. The fretless, the 12 string, there’s little he can’t do. Of course, @eddievedder is one of the greatest frontmen of all time. He complained of a weak voice though I would never know. He was as powerful and as on pitch as ever. He’s one of those Bono level frontmen who has the crowd in the palm of his hand from song 1. I’m happy we got to share our anniversary with the great Pearl Jam. Plus we got to go with @chrissydfitz and @brentfitz for a fun evening out. Thank you for being amazing, Mike and the lads. Last night at Wembley Arena in London was an amazing way to say goodbye to our UK friends. The best UK tour we’ve ever done. In fact The River Is Rising: The Rest Of The World has been our best tour ever. It’s been a rollercoaster ride for me but the shows have been epic. We are in Germany now enjoying a break. 14 years ago TONIGHT was the very first appearance we did together. Only three of the existing members of SMKC are here with brother Bobby Schneck on guitar and @andrewjstockdale from @officialwolfmother I had only become attached very recently before we found ourselves HERE at NBC Studios in Burbank, California on the Tonight Show featuring Jay Leno. Every Cheeky Slash chose to wear a ‘Team Coco’ pin on his guitar strap. Jay Leno had recently taken over the Tonight Show from our homie Conan so this was Slash’s punk rock protest. Team Coco represented Conan’s fans standing up for him. You can see that the camera men are doing everything in their power to not show that pin. Pay close attention. This was very early days. Shortly after Myles would join us and we’d be rehearsing for the world tour that followed. There will be a lot of these memories over the coming days. Now here we are 14 years later. We played Wembley Arena in London last night and are now getting ready to rock Dusseldorf, Germany. Can’t wait. It’s good to look back now and again to see how far you’ve come.
