The attack ripped victims to shreds, including the complete decapitation of a child, and caused widespread fires that burned people alive in their tents, according to witnesses and videos posted online. Four days prior to this massacre, occupation forces told Palestinians to move to an area it calls “block 2371,” designated a “safe area.” This served as the target location for the massacre, after deliberately encouraging desperate Palestinians to seek refuge there. “We were sitting in tents, and suddenly the camp was bombed. I lost five people from my family, all of whom were completely burned, among them pregnant women. Every time they told us that this area was safe until we were bombed. We left the area east of Rafah to the west of the city, thinking there was safety, but now there is no safe place in Gaza. There are massacres everywhere,” said Majed al-Attar, a displaced person from Beit Lahiya. An American-made 2,000-pound bomb was used to commit this massacre, with the help of the United Kingdom, which was flying a British Airforce Shadow R1 Spy Plane over Gaza at the time.
