It’s an honour to be a Canadian filmmaker and represent the voices of our country through stories that move people. Canadian filmmakers in my opinion have a tenacious spirit, a unique collaborative voice, explosive bravery, and bold talent. We persevere and keep creating because we must !!!!
It is absolutely crucial to celebrate our Canadian filmmakers, not just on this day but everyday. There are so many brilliant and creative minds in Canada, with unique stories to tell. The talent in this country needs to feel supported and encouraged to keep creating and sharing their voices. Original content continues to shrink, and it’s very challenging when standing up against big budget sequels and remakes.
We have to remember to nurture originality. We have to remember how it feels to see something new, something daring and celebrate the effort to try.
It’s time to CHAMPION and applaud Canadian filmmakers. To have a Canadian film make it to theatres is a massive success in itself. We need to push the promotion and marketing of our films so that Canada knows we are here. Ideally every theatre in Canada would allocate one screen to Canadian film year round. Let’s celebrate Canadian made films by supporting them and the filmmakers behind them.
